POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs structural analysis and design, quantity calculations and prepares plans for Category 1 bridges and other highway structures for in-house Department projects. Completes quality control reviews of design calculations and plans for simple to moderately complex structural elements. As a registered professional engineer, oversees and/or signs and seals plans, reports and other documents as required. Assists with the development of scopes of services and staff hour estimates for Department and Consultant design projects.
Negotiates staff hours for consultant design projects. Assists with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) for non-conventional bid projects of low complexity. Provides structural engineering support for and serves on Technical Review Committees and Value Engineering Studies as required. Reviews Category 1 highway structures plans and other technical documents such as design variations, design exceptions, typical section packages and maintenance permits. Reviews contractor-initiated submittals and provides recommendations to construction personnel.
Provides structural engineering support to Department and Consultant staff in areas of highway structures plans, analysis and design. Provides guidance and clarification of design standards, criteria and plans preparation.
