Summary/Responsibilities: Successful candidates for this position will work in a technical role for the National Security Systems (NSS) program area. This position offers the opportunity to work on an exciting, cutting-edge program and mission area.
The program will be based in Orbital Dulles, Virginia location.
Primary duties include satellite mission planning and mission systems engineering activities. Mission planning efforts comprise development of mission objectives based on stakeholder inputs, development of mission plans, and development of detailed procedures and analytical prediction of mission performance against established metrics. Must consider all aspects of the spacecraft and orbital environment in developing plans and procedures. Analytical prediction requires use of analytical tools, such as Freeflyer, STK and MATLAB/SIMULINK to calculate orbit trajectories, maneuvers, and to establish design reference missions.
Additional duties include system modeling and simulation, mission ops support, generating engineering reports from advanced studies, special engineering investigations, and occasional Business Development support, and similar activities. The candidate must be knowledgeable in large scale system-of-systems, space vehicle design and operations, ground segments, segment interfaces, payloads, and mission operations. Advanced analyses capability relating to complex mission problems are required, as is the ability to develop and support home-grown mission analysis tools.
The role will include some interface with clients, as well as regular interactions with internal engineering associates and program management. Candidate may be called on to assist in new business activities such as conceptual design and analysis for proposals and funded studies, and may include authoring sections for both. Candidates are to demonstrate a strong ability to work autonomously, with some oversight from the senior engineering team members and program teammates and should be able to leverage previous experience to recognize and mitigate technical issues as they occur. Experience: Desired experience should include mission requirements development from high level objectives, mission planning and execution for satellite missions across a spectrum of orbit classes, mission analysis, and expertise in various mission analysis engineering tools such as MATLAB, STK, and similar tools.
Qualifications: A Bachelors Degree (BA/BS) in an applicable Engineering field. Seven years of related experience is required. Masters Degree preferred. Active TS/SSBI and SCI Security Clearance required.
