PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The LAN Engineering team is responsible for planning, implementation, and support of a large number of data networks around the Stanford University academic campus. These networks include both wired and Wi-Fi networks in the student
residences, academic & administrative buildings, and the data center. The LAN-E group currently supports over 178,000 network ports and 17,000 Wi-Fi access points.
Network design ranges from " green-field" designs for new multi-building constructions to single lab expansions. Network support is provided through close working relationships with the SUNet Backbone group, the IT Operations Center, the Installation & Maintenance technicians, and the Local Network Administrators. The LAN-E team is divided into 3 inter-related and supporting sub-teams. The Res Net team primarily supports the Student Residences.
