As a licensed engineer, this position is the principal engineering officer of the city and has oversight of all design and construction projects overseeing the Division of Design and Construction.
The position may be filled at an augmented level by holding supervisory responsibilities in the Public Works Department as Assistant Director of Public Works. The position reports to the City Manager. Essential Job Functions Provides leadership and strategic direction for determining priorities, goals and objectives to meet the City's engineering
needs. Plans, organizes and coordinates complex project activities including engineering design projects in transportation, water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater, and the construction of bridges and roadways.
Responsible for the direction and oversight of the City's architectural projects, site development plans, surveying needs, GIS systems, and traffic operations. Develops and evaluates policies and procedures to effectively carry out departmental operations; promotes staff collaboration, innovation and critical thinking in developing solutions and approaches to
departmental issues. Responsible for effective employee relations, diversity and staff development; oversees and performs employee evaluations; administers human resources policies and procedures and determines appropriate personnel actions.
Responsible for overall management of the department; including budget research, development, preparation and budget monitoring to ensure cost effectiveness.
