" Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects Daily use of MetafieldĀ®, and/or other field and laboratory information management system Calibrating field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards Perform Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC) Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients Required Qualifications: High school diploma/GED Minimum 3 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
materials or equivalent experience and an associate degree in a related field Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure One or more active certifications are required: American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete Preferred Qualifications: Vocational training in construction materials testing services Working Conditions and Physical Demands: You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as: Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions Walking over rough and uneven terrain Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment) Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary Working outside of normal business hours when necessary Why S&ME: S&ME is a reputable and thriving, 100% employee-owned, multi-disciplined civil engineering firm, offering civil, geotechnical, environmental, and construction materials testing and inspection services since 1973.

for an experienced Engineering Technician serve as our regional laboratory lead technician. In this role, you will: Perform materials testing used in the construction of North Carolina roads and bridges. Learn and conduct tests on soils, coarse and fine aggregates, aggregate base course, concrete, and other materials for NCDOT compliance.
Oversee junior lab technicians and communicate with Contractor and NCDOT staff to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications. Perform data entry into Hi Cams to generate test reports and maintain our in-house Excel database. Assist with arranging daily work schedules for laboratory technicians at testing stations. Maintain laboratory equipment inventory
list. Ensure all equipment is in good working condition, including coordinating routine maintenance, repair, and replacement. Perform and upkeep required routine calibration of testing equipment.
What You Bring Knowledge of techniques, practices, and testing procedures related to concrete, cementitious materials, aggregate, and soil materials. Knowledge of quality management systems and the requirements of technicians and equipment. Communication skills working with technicians, work units, or external customers on technical issues. Computer skills using testing and office software, including Microsoft Office and Hi Cams. Report and technical documentation development experience. Education
& Experience Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and 3+ years relevant technician-level experience; or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
