The primary role is to lead the inpatient child abuse and neglect service at UNC Children’s Hospital, in addition to leading the educational efforts for resident and medical student child maltreatment education. The Child Maltreatment Section is a diverse team including three board certified child abuse pediatricians, one nurse practitioner and two social workers, and includes a state-funded educational program that

Principal duties of the positions will include: Provide patient education about mental health disorders and available treatment options specific to this population. YBH will have 4 adolescent inpatient units with 1 of the 4 units treating mental health conditions within IDD population and the other 3 serving general young child, early adolescent and adolescent mental health conditions requiring psychiatric hospitalization.
Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques. Areas of specific clinical skills of interest include experiences in trauma therapies, systemic and family models of therapy. Academic Counselors meet with students on a regular basis to monitor academic progress, review reports from faculty and tutors on students’ academic progress, class attendance and grades. Additionally, they provide detailed, weekly reports to coaches, conduct and attend team meetings, compile semester grade/eligibility reports and assist with the preparation of each team’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success rate (GSR).

Academic counselors and learning specialists work with each student-athlete to customize his or her MAP based on academic preparedness, course schedule, and individual need. Duties include, but are not limited advanced endoscopic procedures, procedures, clinic visits, inpatient consultation service.
Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Will participate in outreach activities to increase program presence in neighboring Wake County. An interest in clinical research and teaching is desirable. Candidate will be active in training of GI and Hepatology fellows, residents and medical students.
