General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (GPAM) at the University of North Carolina is recruiting a for a full time faculty position, which will have joint responsibilities in in the Section of Child Maltreatment (.60 FTE) and the Division of Hospital Pediatrics (.40 FTE).
The primary role is to lead the inpatient child abuse and neglect service at UNC Children’s Hospital, in addition to leading the educational efforts for resident and medical student child maltreatment education. The Child Maltreatment Section is a diverse team including three board certified child abuse pediatricians, one nurse practitioner and two social workers, and includes a state-funded educational program that
assures the quality of medical child abuse evaluations across the state. In addition to this section, the GPAM division includes a wide range of clinical services, a long history of important research, a central educational role and active advocacy.
Current clinical care includes a primary care clinic, diagnostic referral clinic, complex care program, adolescent medicine specialty care, and clinics addressing behavioral and mental health. Within the Division of Hospital Pediatrics, this faculty position will be primarily evening and night work including direct patient care responsibilities and supervision of residents at UNC Children’s Hospital and potentially at UNC Rex Hospital. Patients
will include general pediatrics, newborn nursery, bone marrow transplant and co-management with other pediatric specialties.
The Division of Hospital Pediatrics is a busy and diverse inpatient group that includes 24/7 coverage of inpatient pediatric and newborn nursery services in Chapel Hill as well as a 10 bed pediatric unit at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Additionally, we have a consult service and coordinate admissions and transfers for all medical patients. Our services and providers focus on the care of children with medical complexity and co-management with medical and surgical specialty consultants. Our faculty are academically productive in many areas including medical education, quality improvement and patient safety.
