Job Description Conduct all aspects of the Fisheries-Independent Monitoring (FIM) program with emphasis on executing statistically valid research experiments and surveys in rivers, bays, and nearshore waters to evaluate relative stock abundance and condition of fish populations.
Conduct fisheries-independent sampling efforts following strict protocol; entering, proofing, and correcting associated data. Conduct fieldwork to collect water samples, fish tissue samples, sediment samples, etc. to aid in the ecological backssment of Florida’s inshore waters. Maintain and repair all field sampling equipment, including nets and accessory gear, water quality
instruments, tool boxes, PFDs, safety equipment, and first aid kits. Assist in the routine maintenance and repair of trucks, boats, and trailers. Complete fish and invertebrate identifications following strict QA/QC protocols using a microscope and dichotomous keys.
Perform and participate in public outreach efforts, as appropriate. Perform other related work as required. This position requires extensive inshore field work on FWC research vessels with numerous trips every week. Execute the project plan for your area of expertise as provided by the Program Manager. Manage the work scope for your area of expertise within the project budget as set out by the Program Manager. Review work cards for your area of expertise and ensure that the Work Package reflects the actual status of the project. Carry out tasks on the aircraft when all other Lead duties are accomplished. Provide technical assistance and guidance to the technicians on the crew. Responsible to ensure that all crew members' paperwork is up-to-date and accurate and maintain integrity of all issued documents.
Verify daily time cards and biweekly computerized reporting for payroll. Responsible to ensure that crew members are billing their time to projects appropriately and that all time is accounted for. Responsible to ensure crew members are working productively throughout the duration of their shift. Responsible to ensure crew members follow Avmax's policies and procedures including evaluating the quality of work with his/her team. Make certain his/her team members comply with Avmax's safety policies and procedures.
