The incumbent is responsible for providing scientific and technical support in the implementation of statewide programs for the backssment and remediation of contamination sites. The position requires knowledge and experience in geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, site backssment, cleanup and closure, human health and ecological risk backssments, and DEP rules and procedures. The position involves the following activities: Reviews and evaluates technical documents submitted in support of contaminated site cleanup including site backssments, feasibility studies, human health and ecological risk backssments and conceptual remedial action plans and reports for all types of contaminated sites.
Prepares written response comments. Assists with guidance and support in evaluation and development of risk backssments including both human health and ecological risk. This includes monitoring developments in the science of risk backssment and evaluating possible effects to department rules, procedures and guidance. Acts proactively to recommend or implement updates to rules, policies and guidance as needed. Assists with writing and updating risk backssment guidance provided to consultants and the public outlining FDEP requirements for risk backssment.
Advise consultants performing risk backssments. Serve as district liaison for responsible party cleanup sites. The district liaisons work with each of the regulatory districts to review site progress, make recommendations for improving the speed of the cleanup and closure, check for consistency in site management decisions among the districts and assist with the verification of accurate and up-to-date data in the COMET database using established reports and metrics. Provide technical assistance to other DEP staff, consultants, local program staff and the public regarding implementation of Chapter 62-780, F.
A. C, Contaminated Site Cleanup Criteria Rule, in regard to backssment and risk management options, and the application of Risk Based Corrective Action Principles. This assistance may include telephone consultations, presentations at technical meetings, small group training, oversight of field activities and development of guidance materials. Assists in clean up rule development, including serving as rule manager as required. Collates and organizes recommendations for rule changes.

Salary: $1,923.08 bi-weekly Description of duties: This position is located in the Imperiled Species Management Section (ISM) and is responsible for the collaborative implementation of the Manatee Warm-water Habitat Action Plan. This position will serve in a leadership capacity on one or more regional warm-water habitat partnership teams, facilitate the long-term prioritization of warm-water habitat networks, and coordinate interagency
habitat restoration and enhancement efforts. Specific Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Organizes, leads, and facilitates interagency and partner working groups and planning teams related to warm-water habitat restoration, enhancement, and creation; Coordinates discussions related to Warm-water Habitat Action Plan implementation with agency leadership, federal partners, and local governments; Serves as a subject matter expert for manatee warm-water and foraging habitat and provides support to other Section staff engaged in environmental permit review; Performs field and site visits related to manatee warm-water and foraging habitat as necessary; Attends and represents the FWC at government meetings, public meetings, administrative hearings, and Commission meetings; Pursues grant funding, as directed, for identified restoration and enhancement projects and with internal and external organization partners; Coordinates data collection activities, conducts data analyses, and regular monitoring of available data including, budget and contract management, interpretation of data and development of recommendations for habitat projects.
