Description Under general supervision, contribute and/or lead a team to develop all phases of design, re-design, systems failure analysis and prevention or other design functions
within an appropriate time and cost. Lead projects and serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on large/complex mine site Engineering projects, which may include the development of new or modification to existing systems and processes, including the responsibility of approving work from other Engineering disciplines Provide support to maintenance department by leading a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program Serve as Project Engineering Leader to develop and author Engineering reports such as concept design, feasibility studies, alternative analysis, failure analysis and prevention, safe work practice, procedural manuals and final design documents Develop and evaluate AFEs (Authorization
for Expenditure) for capital funding requirements Evaluate and administer contracts, provisions of services and equipment, perform strategic planning and budgeting Perform planning, scheduling and economic analysis May supervise front/line or technical employees Use design computer software such as Auto CAD, SAP, Microsoft Project and Pipe2010 Evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement and benchmark other operations for continuous improvement alternatives Perform other duties as required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits, OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits Recent hands-on experience using the principles and practices of Mechanical Engineering at a mine or industrial site in two (2) of the following areas: Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) to include vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound and infrared technology Oil analysis for systems management Leading Engineering and Construction activities for development projects Implementing and managing maintenance improvement plans based on data analysis Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of Mechanical Engineering Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations Preferred Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification Professional Engineer's License Experience with metal mining operations Experience with cost estimating for civil projects Superior interpersonal as well as written and oral communcation Criteria/Conditions Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required Freeport-Mc Mo Ran promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws At Freeport, we are committed to providing an employment package that recognizes excellence, rewards value and impact, and encourages safe production.

This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
