Union Local IBEW 1049 Summary Under the general supervision of the NERC certified Principal and Lead System Operator, the District Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable and effective operation of the electric transmission system of Long Island. This is a rotating shift position on-site in Hicksville, NY. 40 hours/week. Shifts are 12 and 8 hours in length and rotate between day and night shifts including weekends and holidays. will undergo two separate phases of training: Job Duties & Responsibilities Phase A: Six to sixteen months as required.
Varying periods, from one week to three months, will be spent in various departments of the company, after which written and oral examinations will be given for acceptance to Phase B. Phase B: Up to twenty-four months. After satisfactorily passing the above examinations, the candidate will enter a training period in the Transmission Control Center. During the Phase B training period, he/she may be required to relieve the District Operators during vacations and other absences. Periodic written and oral tests may be given any time during Phase B.

Monitors transmission and substation system using the Energy Management System (EMS) and other tools provided; this includes responding to equipment alarms, monitoring transmission system voltages and power flows. Responsible for developing, reviewing and executing switching procedures to energize new transmission and substation equipment. Reacts to unplanned outages by taking corrective action to restore the transmission system to its normal state, including dispatching necessary workforce to repair the source of the outage. Maintains accurate and complete shift log of events that occur during shift, including all normal and emergency operational events, and computer systems hardware/software problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair programs and provides diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise in order to increase equipment availability and reliability. Primary leadership role for his/her shift and/or facility which maintains oversight responsibility to ensure proper communication of mechanical issues, safety issues, material issues, etc. Engagement and utilization of the Safety Management System to identify behavioral, infrastructural, and procedural risks through analysis, backssment, implementation, and execution.
Supervises maintenance of rolling stock equipment in accordance with all Amtrak and regulatory requirements. The salary/hourly range is $92,000 for the General Foreman I and $98,000 for the General Foreman II. The Lead Construction Specialist of Capital Construction reports to the Manager of Capital Construction for the New York Portfolio. This position will be Amtrak’s on-site representative during the construction phase of projects and works directly with field supervisors and contractors. This position will act as liaison with contractors, design consultants and clients to ensure construction activities support project requirements. to construct a project in accordance with specifications and to monitor/report on production metrics that provide the required data to help the project meet its established scope, schedule, and budget.
This position has a combination of office and field environment. This position is subject to respond to emergencies in all weather conditions 24/7. This position requires overnight, and weekend coverage based on project schedule. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Coordinates work activities, track outages, and power outages with various Amtrak departments including Transportation, Track, ET, and C/S. Organizes and attends project site walks with contractors and various Amtrak department personnel.
Provides constructability reviews of design plans and all construction phase submittals associated with the Project. Prepares force account estimates and project estimates and schedule. Works with Project Manager to ensure the project is executed in accordance to the agreed upon scope, costs and schedule. Reviews daily production reports. Provides weekly updates to the project manager on the status of project, including any issues that occurred. Provides formal monthly project status reports addressing actual and forecast costs and schedules, change of status, etc.

The salary/hourly range is $94,300 - $122,256. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc.
