Address : 5300 Highbridge Road, Quincy, FL 32351 Or Panama City Regional Office (TBD) Supervisor: Clint Peters Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check Description of duties : Planning & Implementation: This Career Service position serves as the Wildlife and Habitat Management (WHM) section’s regional Conservation Biologist and is responsible for regional implementation of the Wildlife Conservation, Prioritization, and Recovery (WCPR) program and ensuring agency conservation priorities are implemented on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and other conservation lands within the Northwest Region.

The incumbent will need to work with regional staff and other

internal stakeholders, as well as FWC’s conservation partners, to be effective. Responsible for assisting with developing, coordinating, and implementing Wildlife Management Strategies for locally important species within FWC’s WMA System.

Incumbent will use GIS, population modeling tools, and knowledge of the lands and regional landscape to identify areas of conservation importance and collaboratively develop land management prescriptions to enhance locally important species habitat. This may entail performing listed species backssments, prioritizing actions to address threats, assisting with land management treatments including prescribed fire, training area staff on monitoring techniques,

and identifying information needs. Additionally, the incumbent will fully develop monitoring protocols for assigned species and assist with data management of a statewide database to store wildlife survey data.

Incumbent will coordinate with planning staff to identify resource priorities for incorporation into 10-year management plans and ensure pertinent information regarding imperiled species and their management is shared during Land Management Reviews conducted by Division of State Lands. Where FWC is a cooperating agency, incumbent will coordinate with lead agencies and provide technical support to other agency staff. Duties will include contributing to the implementation of the Regional backssment that evaluates the level of opportunity and need for various species on a regional scale, identifying conservation lands important to the persistence of listed or locally important species, and making appropriate management recommendations.

The incumbent will be expected to interact with regional and state level staff, area staff, and cooperating agencies to ensure appropriate resources are allocated to address agency priorities. The incumbent is expected to report on the conservation projects that occur on public lands within the region.

Data Analysis & Report Writing: Incumbent is responsible for maintaining species monitoring data generated from WMA sampling, and reporting status and trends of species in response to land management practices. Incumbent will be responsible for implementing procedures for data quality control, data analysis, data storage and retrieval, and data dissemination to area biologists. This position is responsible for submitting required reports and assisting with the development of annual work plans, budgets and reports, and will be expected to provide presentations of work at professional meetings.

Technical Assistance: Incumbent will be responsible for assisting land management staff and coordinating with local land use planners on new growth and development issues with potential to adversely affect fish and wildlife resources on agency managed lands. Workshops and Training: Schedules and implements WCPR workshops for area staff and incorporates WCPR priorities into Objective Based Vegetation Management.
