A DAY IN THE LIFEThe Project Chemist assists with laboratory selection,
analysis selection, data review, data usability, and backssment of data validation services on various CERCLA, RCRA, and other federal and state projects.
The successful candidate will oversee the completion of chemistry related sampling and analysis plans for a large variety of federal clients. The Project Chemist will coordinate field work with selected laboratories and ensure laboratories chosen are sufficient to achieve project objectives, as well as input field data into federal database systems such as NIRIS, ERPIMS, and FUDSChem. As a key member of the Montrose team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including: Serve as deputy chemist on various projects to review laboratory data, perform usability backssments, and evaluate laboratory proficiency to achieve contract and project goals.
Act as a liaison between field personnel and laboratories, ensuring that samples are collected appropriately, submitted to laboratories capable of meeting project needs, and reported consistently with project requirements. Write and assist with project planning documents (health and safety plans, sampling and analysis plans, Work Plan, etc. ). Procure and coordinate subcontractor work, including laboratories and data validation.
Assist in the management of environmental project activities including scheduling, tracking, and planning for key tasks on environmental projects. Interface with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met. Maintain confidentiality at all times. Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs. Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts. Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attend professional workshops.
Develop and strengthen technical capabilities within a selected area of technical expertise. Perform other duties as assigned depending on your skillset and interests. Ability to multi-task and think quickly. Maintain a high level of communication both internally and with external clients and client contractors. Ability to write technical documents including but not limited to reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, or a related science from an accredited college or university; 2+ years of environmental analytical laboratory experience focused on QA or client services/project management or environmental analytical data validation experience.
Possess a good understanding of analytical chemistry principles and be able to apply to environmental data usability backssment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Strong understanding of US EPA methods for the preparation and analysis of environmental samples. Strong understanding of interpretation and data usability backssment. Possess a strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and their application to environmental data review. Familiarity with environmental data management systems such as EQu IS and ERPIMS strongly desired.
Previous work with the Department of Defense, State/local government, or work in environmental chemistry is a plus. Experience developing UFP-QAPP Work Plans is a plus. Familiarity with automated data review tools is a plus. Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite and AdobeĀ® Acrobat. Computer literate - capable of performing tasks such as: creating spreadsheets; composing correspondence; and creating reports and documents using computer software. Meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on individual tasks while collaborating with peers.
