Event Support Collaborate on a wide range of academic, student and faculty events such as conferences, workshops, speaker series, etc. Work closely with unit staff and faculty to plan for catering, hosting, venue reservations, travel accommodations, audio/visual requirements, and other details. Locate and reserve venues to accommodate desired attendees. Identify, arrange, and ensure proper set-up of audio-visual requirements for speakers. Communicate event details to faculty, students, staff, outside departments, and guests. Additional Responsibilities Capture the activities and energy of a wide range of small and large-scale events through photography.
Coordinate and shoot portrait photography of award winners, feature students, faculty, and others as needed. Coordinate staged photography to suit the visual needs of a variety of publications. Select and prepare images for best quality presentations in print and digital media. Lead video projects from concept to final product, including storyboards, shot lists, interviews, permissions, filming, music selection, audio and image correction, closed captioning, and creating shorts for social media.
Work closely with students and faculty to produce a variety of short films to reach target audiences on themes including diversity, academic excellence, research and interdisciplinary, donor impact, and many aspects of the undergraduate and graduate experience. Students' experience with orientation is our first opportunity at ensuring student success. Our Orientation Leaders are committed to the university and the Flint Community. We are seeking student leaders who truly enjoy serving and helping others. Responsibilities New student orientation informs incoming
students on university policies, opportunities, and regulations, acquaints them with their surroundings, and addresses their individual needs for success at UM-Flint.
Orientation Leaders will work anywhere from five hours to thirty hours per week. Weekend events are extremely limited, so there is time for weekend activities and outside employment. Below are the major areas of responsibility. Training: Training is required and will be held weekly on Friday 12:30-3:30PM beginning Friday, February 10, 2023. In addition to the training sessions for the entire team, there may be additional training sessions to provide development time to create various workshops for the sessions. Early Communication:
Beginning in April, Orientation Leaders will be expected to spend five hours per week in the Student Success Center contacting new students.
Orientation Leaders must be comfortable and effective in communicating with new students over the phone and by email. Orientation Sessions: The sessions include first-year student orientation and transfer student orientation sessions. Orientation Leaders are expected to work every first year and transfer session and must be present for the entirety of them. Session Dates: April 26 May 16 June 6 June 7 June 13 June 20 July 11 July 18 August 1 August 9 August 15During the sessions, Orientation Leaders will be expected to present workshops, assist students with campus technology (including the registration process in SIS), relay information about campus policies and procedures, give tours of campus, and other various tasks to address new student success.
Extra Events: There are a number of additional events that the Orientation Leaders are expected to work. These typically take place from the end of August into the first few weeks of classes of the fall semester. These events include the My Flint events, Wolverine Welcome, Move-in Day, Individualized Tours, and others as they arise. If an Orientation Leader's fall classes conflict with any of these events, an exception can be made.
Continuing Communication: During and through the fall semester, Orientation Leaders will continue to reach out to our new students. This will be similar to the Early Communication program, but focused on following up with the students to address their immediate and future needs for success.
