We are looking for a greenhouse and nursery manager who loves to grow plants, and can grow just about anything-bedding plants, specialty seasonal display plants (trained Chrysanthemums, poinsettias, etc.
), annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, etc. We envision the successful candidate to be someone who leads while working alongside a team-maintaining all aspects of greenhouse and nursery maintenance and production at Bellingrath Gardens & Home. Primary responsibilities: Oversee all
nursery/greenhouse operations and protocols, including but not limited to: crop scheduling, propagation, growing, integrated pest management, finishing, and finished crop transfer to garden Work with Display Designer, the Horticulture team, and the Director of Horticulture to develop procurement, scheduling, propagation, growing, and finishing protocols for all bedding plants, florist pot crops (including our cascading chrysanthemums, poinsettias, etc.
), permanent garden plants, and trial plants Work alongside Assistant Nursery Manager to oversee all aspects or personnel management, including daily and weekly assignments Work with Director of Horticulture to develop and monitor annual
nursery budget and expenses Work with Director of Horticulture to develop and implement plant trials Propagate and produce, or procure from other supplies all plants to sell at seasonal plant sales and ongoing sales in the Atrium with a goal of maximizing and annually increasing earned income backss and communicate proper safety practices throughout the nursery complex Work alongside Assistant Nursery Manager to ensure that professional standards of cleanliness and sanitation are being met by the staff and for the plants Regularly discuss with Director of Horticulture, Executive Director, and Maintenance Manager needed upgrades and major repairs of these facilities (i.

Understand and execute processes for safe and efficient tank car unloading. Unload truck trailers, store materials in appropriate locations, and receive and track materials in the terminal inventory system. Ensure inbound shipments are accurate and free of damage and report quality variances. Operate forklift safely and efficiently in order to load, unload, and move items. Perform routine inspections on forklift equipment to ensure forklift equipment is operating well. Follow established department SOP's to operate blending/mixing machines.
Use mixing and blending machines to produce quality products. Monitor equipment and production to ensure safe and efficient operation. Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area. Ensure cleanliness of blending equipment and terminal to meet required standards. Use small hand tools to disassemble equipment and clean as necessary. Clean walls, floors, and all other fixtures in the terminal using appropriate cleaning tools and cleansing agents. Conduct quality control tests in order to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met. Draw samples of products for laboratory testing.
Record data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings. Maintain a variety of records in written or electronic form regarding cleaning and product batches. Perform other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: HS Diploma or equivalent Experience: 1 year of experience in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, farming or agriculture environment preferred Previous experience with forklift operation preferred SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Skills: Ability to read and understand processes and procedures.
