Consults with users to identify and analyze network support needs. Performs project management duties on technical projects as necessary.
Essential Functions: Diagnoses hardware and software problems; replaces defective components. Recommends changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes. Confers with network users to solve system issues. Troubleshoots network connectivity and other IT related problems. Monitors network performance for potential present and future adjustments
and changes. Supervises University network infrastructure - routers, switches, cabling, and other network components. Oversees the growth of the University wireless network and provides significant input in its design and implementation.
Consults with users to identify and analyze computer support needs. Provides training and technical supervision for other personnel. Writes technical documentation as required. Monitors the wireless network controllers to ensure all wireless network components are online and operational. Supports and assists other employees. Creates and conducts training on how to install, maintain, and configure the network appliances. Maintains and monitors the Orion
system to insure all the wired infrastructure is online and operational.
Maintains an up-to-date backup of all network equipment configuration. Makes configuration changes to switches, controllers, access points, and firewall daily. Maintains and modifies the Wired and Wireless DNS servers, DHCP servers, and Network Access Control (NAC) appliance. Lends IT support at campus events meetings. Monitors the network for malicious or other activity that violates the University’s use policy. Reviews industry-relevant articles and subscribes to listserv groups to stay current and identify areas of improvement. Performs other related duties as assigned.
