The Regional Manager also works on issues and projects throughout the State.
The Regional Manager provides officials with direct access to professional staff knowledgeable about NJ TRANSIT operations and experienced in properly addressing concerns raised, as well as effectively communicating information relevant for the communities being served. The Office of Government and Community Relations is a small department with statewide jurisdiction and responsibilities,
the regional managers, like other GCR staff, must be prepared and able to handle any GCR assignment, whether or not it is part of their typical daily duties.
Roles and Responsibilities: backsses and evaluates community attitudes and concerns regarding major studies on transit issues, new initiatives and construction projects and advises management of impacts. backsses potential transportation needs for future development throughout the state. Establishes and maintains proactive and continuing contact with elected and appointed officials, commuter groups, transportation committees or special interest groups within their assigned geographic region area, impacted by NJ TRANSIT programs,
policies and/or service initiatives. Designs and recommends a comprehensive community relations program for assigned geographic region area and on specific projects and implements same.
Ensures conflict avoidance/resolution, as required and sensitive information dissemination; externally and internally. Researches, plans and composes internal/external correspondence, briefing preparation, reports and/or requests for information on assigned projects in geographic area. Coordinates agency-wide in the planning, coordination and implementation of approved programs, and coordinates multi-disciplined agency-task force planning teams to address community issues of concern.
Serves as Government & Community Relations contact person for any public events within their assigned geographic region. Creates and maintains an accurate database of all elected officials within assigned geographic region. Prepares weekly activity reports and submits to the Senior Director. Performs special projects and/or initiatives projects, as assigned by the Senior Director. Education, Experience and Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related area, or equivalent, and/or three years of community relations experience, relating to the handling of special interest groups, project planning, administration, and public information dissemination expertise.
Working Environment: Regional managers must be able to work both in the office and in the field, as well as be available to handle emergent matters that may come up at night and on weekends.
