We are seeking a talented and highly motivated research scientist to join our Sequencing Research and Genomics (SRG) team. The SRG team establishes integrated, innovative NGS capabilities across BMS' Research organization and enables drug discovery and clinical translation for patients through close collaborations.
Our work contributes to therapeutic discovery and early translational research programs in immunology, cardiovascular, oncology, cell therapy and neurological indications. The principal scientist will have the opportunity to develop novel NGS-based assays and functional genomics technologies, such as CRISPR-based perturbation technologies, single cell multi-omics, and epigenomics. The role will involve close inter-disciplinary collaborations with experimental biology and computational genomics research colleagues to derive deep and robust insights from diverse genomics assays.
This position is ideal for someone with demonstrated scientific expertise, a team player with a collaborative spirit, the ability to manage multiple projects while prioritizing tasks towards completion, and good communication skills. The candidate will preferably be based in BMS' Lawrenceville or San Diego site, and candidates at other BMS sites will be considered. Key Responsibilities Design and execute Genomics experiments to elucidate biological mechanisms in normal and disease state, identify therapeutic targets, and validate biomarker hypotheses. Perform innovative research at the leading edge of functional genomics and NGS technology development, including NGS sample and library preparation techniques, aligned to our scientific research objectives.
Collaborate effectively with computational, discovery biology and translational researchers Develop and operationalize internal NGS capabilities, enable strategic collaborations, backss technology platforms and external vendors, document protocols, and supervise technical support staff as required Communicate strategies, results, and conclusions to internal and external collaborators Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in molecular and cell biology, genetics, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or related discipline and 8+ years of academic / industry experience Or Master's Degree in molecular and cell biology, genetics, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or related discipline and 6+ years of academic / industry experience Or Ph D in molecular and cell biology, genetics, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or related discipline and 4+ years of academic / industry experience Preferred Qualifications At least 4 years of interdisciplinary research experience in molecular or cellular biology techniques in academic or biomedical research environment.
Expertise in performing innovative NGS technology development, hands-on experience of sample and library preparation, and knowledge of sequencing platforms, with a demonstrable publication record. Experience in single cell multiomics technologies and employing functional genomics tools (e. g. CRISPR-i/a, -KO, Perturb-seq, arrayed CRISPR screens) for high-throughput perturbation screens is desired Experience in the use of NGS assays applied to immunology, cardiovascular diseases, cancer biology, neuroscience, and/or cell therapy research is desired. Experience in the culture and manipulation of cell lines, i PSCs and i PSC-derived cells, primary cells and/or PDO models is desired.
Experience in automation of NGS assays, experimental design considerations, and familiarity with downstream bioinformatics approaches is preferred. Excellent time management and organizational skills, collaborative nature, and good verbal and written communication skills. The starting compensation for this job is a range from $121,000 - $167,200, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
