Duties involve contributing to retrofit/upgrading machine concepts, design of control software, integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems, process development and machine installation at customer sites worldwide.
Programming and integration assignments involve leading-edge technologies and processes utilizing PLC’s, PC’s, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, laser, and other controllers. In addition, programming assignments may involve PC computers, and various third-party test
instruments or data acquisition devices separately or in combination. Responsibilities Design and develop software programs (PLC and/or PC based) specific to customers and project requirements based on standard ATS programming methods.
Debug and commission control systems at our facility, during the system integration stage and then at the customer’s site during installation. Participate in designing, enhancing, adapting ATS Test Systems standard programming methods to support new types of projects and test capabilities. Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify test system program completeness. Works with other members of the software development department and other
groups to continuously improve methods of integrating test system software and instrumentation technology.
Travel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, and training duties. Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers. Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost. Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to ensure that labor and material budgets as well as scheduled delivery dates are adhered to or improved upon.
Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems and provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system. Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software program completeness. Provide accurate documentation for each project. Advise customers on solving technical problems. Provide customers with training specific to their current project (i. e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure).
Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct. Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures. Education A post-secondary endingeering degree, or equivalent, specializing in mechanical, electrical, systems, or computer engineering. Qualifications Strong programming, mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills. Journeyman card/license/certification is highly desirable. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Understanding of robotics, control systems, and machine operation with hands-on experience is desirable.
A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Education: Minimum requirement: Bachelor's Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or similar) Preferred: Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or similar) Chinese and/
or Spanish language skills helpful, but not required PMP training or Program Management experience desired Work Experience and Skills Required: 7+ years' experience in the automotive industry, including at least two successful product launches - preferably with North American OEMs.
Experience in steering wheel/ driver airbag modules required. Experience leading programs and teams with full engineering responsibility. Airbag module testing and performance analysis experience. Knowledge of plastic part design for injection molding. Knowledge of Injection Mold Tooling (gates, parting lines, action, etc. ) as it relates to part design. Plastic resin and materials selection knowledge as related to airbag modules and steering wheel components.
Ability to develop component and sub-assembly GD&T tolerancing and tolerance stack-up studies in support of manufacturing & craftsmanship goals. Knowledge of leather- and PUR wrapping processes and design limitations for steering wheels and driver airbags. Experience using CAE as a design and product optimization tool. Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner in a team environment. Identify and address issues in a direct, " data driven" manner. Self-motivated and enthusiastic; " coaching" style.
