(90-100%), Union, Remote-Friendly Working/Functional Title CI Consultant Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager of MSU IT’s Research Cyberinfrastructure department, the CI Consultant will primarily perform the following duties: • Regularly advise a diverse group of researchers through various support channels (email, ticketing systems, chats) and offer in-person consultations during office hours to address their technical needs effectively.
• Establish a deep understanding of specific research activities through consistent engagements, aiming to tailor technical support to their unique requirements. • Coordinate interactions between researchers and technology providers, fostering
effective communication and collaboration with systems, software/data professionals, as well as network and security partners. • Build and maintain relationships with external vendor technicians and engineers to ensure alignment with research technology needs.
Solutions Development and Implementation: • Design, plan, and implement well-engineered software and data services that supports and enriches research productivity and reliability. • Facilitate the design, debugging, and automation/scripting of complex research workflows alongside researchers to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. • Design and implement robust, secure IT solutions within the dynamic and fast-paced research environment,
including maintaining version-controlled software code and custom data processing pipelines for complex research scenarios.
• Contributes to the technical direction and architecture for technology in one or more specialties. Functions as a technical lead / subject matter expert. • Performs independent research, prototyping, evaluates and champions new technology including cost benefit analyses. Documentation, Training, and Support: • Enhance researchers' learning by providing comprehensive awareness of the local and broader research computing and data landscape. • Develop advanced curricula and conduct workshops to empower researchers in maximizing their utilization of CI for their research endeavors.
