Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reports all emergencies to the appropriate supervisor(s) and emergency agencies.
Assists in emergencies, such as natural disasters, criminal acts in progress, medical emergencies and similar situations. Monitors electronic security system to insure facilities protection. Tours buildings and grounds for any suspicious persons or activities; investigates unusual disturbances on the premises to maintain peace and
order; inspects equipment in order to detect any tampering or irregularities such as leaking pipes, fire hazards, etc. Maintains tour of duty and incident log.
Reports all disturbances to a supervisor or the Police Department, as necessary and as required by policies and procedures. Provides emergency services in an effort to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry. Maintains current certification or licenses in first aid, self-defense, operation of security equipment, etc. Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort. When assigned to the Cultural Center & Museum: Assists museum staff in emergency drills, such as, fire drills; medical drills;
etc. Assists visitors, especially directing visitor's at large public events.
Assists museum staff in monitoring visitors and users of facilities at events which occur after business hours. Coordinates with event liaison to insure that the facilities are cleaned and undamaged. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions. Knowledge of methods and techniques of surveillance and surveillance tools and equipment. Knowledge of building, gas, water and electrical shut-off in case of emergency. Skill in observing and activities within and around work assigned areas. Skill in maintaining vigilance while on duty.
Skill in providing superior customer service for both internal and external customers. Ability to perform outdoor work in varying field and weather conditions. Ability to operate two-way communications equipment. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules, including weekends and holidays. Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines. Ability to insure public trust both on duty and off duty by lawful conduct and the avoidance of or appearance of any criminal act(s).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and the general public. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma and six months work experience in related field. Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements: Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record. May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years). If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
