With expertise in anesthetic procedures and surgical management, they ensure the well-being of patients before, during, and after complex surgical procedures. Their responsibilities range from administering anesthesia, assisting in surgeries, and post-operative care, to meticulous record-keeping of treatments, medications, and vital signs. In addition to clinical duties, they play a mentoring role, sharing their knowledge with fellow technicians. The Technician also maintains surgical facilities, ensuring equipment is in optimal condition and facilitating efficient procedures.
What sets the Anesthesia Veterinary Technician apart is their versatility. They can seamlessly transition between departments, providing vital assistance in anesthetic inductions and offering guidance to newer technicians when the anesthesiologist is occupied. Duties you may own: Places venous and arterial catheters, performs intubations, local blocks, epidurals and special procedures. Restrains and anesthetizes canine and feline patients.
Performs patient pain backssment with the aid of approved clinical pain scoring chart. Performs needed blood tests for PCV/TP, AZO, blood glucose and blood gases. Assists or initiates preparation/workup of patient undergoing anesthesia by backssing patient and any clinical history. Completes a written anesthetic plan and reviews with Anesthesiologist. Accurately calculates drug dosages, drug dilutions, CRIs and intravenous fluid rates. Operates and interprets all physiologic patient monitors including ECG, direct and indirect blood pressure, pulse oximeter, capnograph, gas analyzer, temperature and blood gas analyzer.
Knows the location of the CPR crash cart and is trained in CPR techniques and drugs. Stocks and maintains adequate supplies of consumables in induction and storage areas of anesthesia section. Manages controlled substances according to DEA regulations, and ensures they are properly logged onto patient's record and in other official logs. Maintains accurate and complete anesthesia medical record. Basic Requirements: High school diploma 2+ years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) VTS in Anesthesia highly preferred Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients, demonstrating tact, patience, and professional courtesy while maintaining confidentiality and discretion Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices, estimates, and other related calculations Work Schedule: Full-Time Shift TBD Flexible schedule required.
