Job Summary: We are currently seeking a full- time Veterinary Technician that is energetic, dependable, compassionate, hardworking, and friendly!
The Veterinary Technician provides leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility in accordance with hospital policy and procedures. The technician will be able to communicate effectively with team members and clients and have great attention to detail and organizational abilities. Responsibilities: Physical Requirements: The veterinary technician must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker. The veterinary technician must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.
The veterinary technician must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in hospital environment. The veterinary technician must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high. The veterinary technician will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances. The veterinary technician must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
Qualifications: Major Duties: Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for in-patient medical care- administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed. Anesthesia/Surgery Our Veterinary Technician's prep, induction, maintenance, monitoring, recovery of patients, cleans/maintains/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
Dentistry- Our Veterinary Technician's provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, assist doctor with dental surgery. Radiology - Our Veterinary Technician's position patients and assist with radiographs, sending radiographs via email. Laboratory duties- Our Veterinary Technician's are responsible for collecting, preparing, & running or submitting samples for requested tests; reading and recording results when indicated (fecals, Urines, Ear cytology etc) when requested by doctor. Preparing invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools Client communication for hospitalized patients - give patient updates, discharge instructions, and provide follow up for certain hospital patients.
Client medical demonstrations / education - teach/educate clients on at home care procedures. Veterinary Technician appointments- blood draws for therapeutic monitoring / screening tests, bandage changes, post-op checks, suture removals, AG, TNT. Clinic technician- assisting doctor with outpatient appointments, preparing, restocking, cleaning exam room, check patients in and out, take history and vitals, input data into patient medical record, ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge.
Assist with reception/front desk duties as needed- answering phones, booking appointments, admit/discharge patients. Assist in training and mentoring new team members. Assist with inventory control informing inventory manager when products are getting low/out, unpacking, restocking drug & medical supplies. Preparing prescriptions - dispensed medications & medication refills. The Clinical Veterinarian will be responsible for providing professional veterinary services
and assisting with the management of all phases of health care for the animal colony. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Provide clinical care for the animal colony.
Perform veterinary rounds as scheduled, and provide clinical care and preventive medicine support. Perform surgical support and provide anesthesia, surgical and analgesic technical expertise/advice to facilitate protocol development. Assist in the development and deliver training for staff. training may include veterinary diagnostics, techniques and minor surgical procedures. Provide animal health care guidance for veterinary services personnel as required. Ensure that reports and other materials are prepared and submitted as required.
May participate in the response to internal/external inspections and quality assurance audits of veterinary or animal welfare type content.
Provide support for activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including protocol review, program review and facility inspections. May serve on the IACUC committee. Write, review and update veterinary care and/or necropsy SOPs as required. Perform literature searches relating to veterinary subject matters. Ensure facility is in compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines and standards that relate to animal care and use (e. g. USDA, FDA, AAALAC). Make recommendations and assist in establishing and enhancing veterinary and animal care standards.
Use controlled substances and be responsible for maintaining appropriate records. May assist in management of the activities of assigned section, including providing direction to Veterinary Technicians, scheduling activities, and personnel development of veterinary technical team and husbandry staff. Perform special projects and assist with administrative efforts as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinary degree (D. V. M. /V. M. D. ) Related experience with animal care and surgical techniques. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U. S. state. Ability to practice veterinary medicine in the work state highly desirable. USDA accreditation or application submitted within 1 month of hire. Proficient in Computers (MS Office Suite). Must be organized, can prioritize work and meet deadlines. Must have strong communication skills. Must be available to be on call on a rotating weekend shift. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a research/lab animal/GLP environment.
Compensation Data The pay range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000 USD. Benefits include health, dental, vision and paid vacation. Responsibilities: Perform routine spay/neuter surgeries on both public and shelter animals.
Perform the occasional mass removal, enucleation, amputation, and whatever other surgeries that the veterinarian is comfortable with on shelter animals. Perform any surgery for the public that the vet is comfortable with. Examine shelter animals and recommend treatment plans. Examinations and documentation for animal abuse cases. Perform vaccine clinics for the public at the shelter’s discretion,
typically once per month. Public wellness checks are at the discretion of the veterinarian. It is important that the veterinarian work in a team like atmosphere with the shelter staff, have an open mind in developing treatment plans, and have compassion for shelter animals.
