Option. Summary / Objective: Asphalt Class 1 Laborer must be able to perform tasks involving physical labor on jobsites. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare job sites. May assist other craft workers. Ensure Safety and Quality are the 1st priority on every project. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring potential hazards / problems to the attention of the Foreman or Safety Director. Immediately reports any suspected drug, alcohol, or intoxication to the Safety Director.
This position is identified as a " safety sensitive position" due to working around heavy equipment and street / highway construction projects. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in street /highway construction projects.
Perform manual work in preparing surfaces for paving. Rake / shovel asphalt in construction area. Assist in patching asphalt with hot /cold mix. Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards. Material handling and storage. Possibly direct / guide trucks to unload asphalt / materia l. Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
