The RN in Digestive Health is specially trained to assist with endoscopy procedures involving the gastrointestinal and respiratory system. This position requires the knowledge and skill of nursing theory and practice in order to provide optimal patient care in a cost effective manner. The RN will provide leadership in the department by functioning in a charge

capacity and assuming the responsibilities of such. Essential Functions Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards Maintains cooperative relationships among healthcare team members Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns Documents patient care services by charting in patient

and department records Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions to appropriate healthcare team member Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to backss, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and management Provides patient care by reviewing providers orders; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families/support person; conferring with providers Resolves patient issues by conferring with parties involved Maintaining standards of professional nursing care Promotes a culture of safety by maintaining awareness of patient’s safety needs at all times; acts as a patient advocate by voicing concerns, using chain of command as necessary; adheres to safety practices i.

e. safety huddles, bedside shift report Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family/support person; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions and monitor patients for reactions or side effects Preparing patient for and assisting with exams as needed.

Explaining procedures/treatment/discharge to patient and family members to alleviate apprehension and to verify understanding of procedure/discharge IV therapy competency including care for central lines Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations Appropriate supervision and delegation of duties to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel and other ancillary staff Assures compliance with Joint Commission standards regarding National Patient Safety Goals and other areas of accreditation.
