Our Team As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible to design, model, analyze, characterize high-speed connectors,
cables, and systems within our Copper Solutions IO enterprise division team. In this role you will provide technical expertise in connector, cable design for the exponentially growing data storage systems and telecommunications market.
This is a dynamic group of highly skilled professionals that will provide an opportunity for constant learning and innovation. This role will be leading projects from idea to high volume production. These new products drive the industry making a big impact on our customers and their products. The successful applicant will have the ability to appropriately plan and see assignments through to completion with minimal direction, provide leadership to other
team members; develop timing, meet project schedules, manage risks, accurately quote design, and systematically solve problems of a complex scope.
The primary location for this position is the Lisle Design Center (Lisle Illinois) or the Arkansas Design Center (Conway AR)- Molex offers a very flexible work environment to also suit our talent needs. What You Will Do Be a team member in a global organization designing and developing leading edge new products and components for the high-speed cable and connector industry Working independently to design and develop new interconnect products, including high speed connectors, connector cable assemblies, and miscellaneous related mechanical hardware for datacom and telecom applications such as hubs, servers, switches, routers, HBA servers, and RAIDS You will be expected to interface with professional cross functional team members in our signal integrity team, manufacturing integration team, program management, sales organization, state of the art test laboratories, R&D model shop, manufacturing and senior leadership teams Present concepts, presentations, detailed requirements internally and to customers to obtain support for development of major new products Perform design verification activities, predictive analytics for mechanical and electrical requirements Have travel opportunities to visit our manufacturing sites and meet the global team Create relationships with senior leadership, cross functional team members and peers through team building activities and growth opportunities operating as One Molex Team Provide leadership, support, and guide less experienced team members on multiple NPD projects Work with marketing and external customers to help define new project opportunities and strategize on overall design Provide application and technical support to consolidate inputs from Marketing, customers, and external consultants into product concepts and detailed requirements Drive IP submissions with our legal team Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 12+ years' experience in electro-mechanical product design and development with proven technical leadership within high speed datacom electronics industries Deep experience with design validation testing and end of life testing requirements In depth knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and use of Tolerance Analyses GD&T Experience with advanced parametric 3D CAD systems Deep design experience with products manufactured using the some of the following processes: progressive die stamping, injection molding, die casting, reel to reel plating and insert molding along with their respective process capabilities, ability to challenge processes Desire to learn, be challenged and interact in a cross functional team environment ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely Strong working knowledge of signal integrity properties, impedance, insertion loss, return loss and cross talk Familiarity with working on PCBA's and reflow SMT technology.
Strong understanding and practical knowledge of Six Sigma quality development tools and principles (DOE, FMEA, etc.
) Familiarity with working on tear downs, failure analysis tools (SEM, FIB, FTIR, Cross sectioning) Experience submitting confidential IP and working with Patent Attorneys Ability to set boundaries on development timelines and tasks for deliverables What Will Put You Ahead Master's degree or Ph D in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering field Siemens NX experience Deep design experience with high-speed, high-density connectors, cable assemblies, and interconnect products Design experience with products manufactured utilizing electroplating and automated assembly Knowledge of regulatory agency testing requirements (e.
g. specific disciplines of Emergency Response: public health with responding toxicologists and occupational health with exposure scientists. This position will provide parallel technical direction, focused mainly on occupational health of responding workers, chemical safety, and Industrial Hygiene (IH)-related needs for emergency response, as well as other exposure-related projects.
This position will also provide technical support to other internal CTEH divisions, including internal professional development and growth of ASG supporting scientists. This candidate must have a strong understanding of emergency response health & safety principles, practices, and be able to implement strategies
