hydrogen and helium liquefiers, etc. The Process Technology group of the Green Hydrogen Product Line is responsible for selecting the most appropriate technologies, designing the process cycles, and developing preliminary process duties and high-level equipment specifications, P&IDs, and control schemes meeting customer or project requirements.
Our work is an important factor contributing to winning bids which eventually lead to executed projects. The Senior Principal Process Engineer is an experienced individual contributor role. The successful candidate will be providing engineering support in the development of proposal activities leading to the successful hand over to Engineering
for the execution of Projects worldwide. This will include supporting an in-house design team or supporting an external engineering design company, as well as providing support for upgrading/modifying and maintaining existing product and plant assets.
Experience in hydrogen production plants, ammonia and cryogenic applications is a strong plus. The successful candidate needs to be comfortable with ambiguity and complexity. Last but not least, we are looking for energetic people with a positive attitude and a strong initiative and a sense of project ownership. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES This position is accountable for the following end results: Deliver all objectives safely and achieve 100% compliance with safety requirements.
Work with proposal managers, product managers and technology managers to support bid work, cost estimates, new technology implementation and product competitiveness initiatives. Be familiar with the technologies employed and the strengths and weaknesses of different designs or options. Create or modify design process cycles based on simulation software. Generate heat and material balances (H&MB) and utility summaries and develop process flow diagrams (PFD). Evaluate technical risks in the process and devise plans for risk mitigation or fallback in conjunction with the technology managers.
Develop or check design calculations and duty specifications for equipment such as reactors, heat exchangers, adsorption systems, machinery and vessels. Support P&ID development, operability reviews, hazard reviews, and model reviews. Support product development activities where the goal may be developing a new cycle, modifying an existing one, engineering the product design, increasing competitiveness by reducing installed capital cost or optimizing the project engineering hours within the Process offers. Participate in implementation and improvement of work processes within the discipline.
Domestic and international travel to other Air Products facilities, customer locations and plant sites is estimated to be up to 20% of the time. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS BS or higher in Chemical Engineering At least 12 years of applicable work experience (e. g. industrial gas company, technology company, or EPC firm). Prior experience using process modelling tools, preferably Aspen Plus, and in process flow sheet development. Demonstrable technical competence, effective communication, and be a self-motivated team player with a willingness to accept responsibility.
Ability to work under pressure and be comfortable with ambiguity. Experience in Green Hydrogen, Ammonia and Electrolyzer systems would be beneficial. You will be working in our new cryogenic testing labs located at our headquarters in Allentown, PA.
The engineer develops new cryogenic freezing and chilling equipment and will enjoy the challenges of this hands-on, customer-focused role. Abilities: Develop innovative applications / equipment using industrial gases including the use of liquid N2/CO2 for freezing and chilling or gaseous N2/CO2 for use in the processing steps.
Prepare scope, project schedule, and budget costs pertaining to development of new equipment. Lead design, fabrication and lab testing of prototypes, in collaboration with our Equipment Engineering group and external vendors. Work with Commercial Technology engineers to implement customer trials of new technology. Provide technical support for commercialized offerings. Education and Licensing Requirements: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering Knowledge of mechanical design, thermodynamics, heat transfer,
and fluid mechanics. Experience working with equipment fabricators a plus.
Knowledge of 3D CAD system a plus Knowledge of PLC programming a plus but not required. Possess good organization, time management, teamwork, and communication skills.
