Position Title: Director, Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Position Number: 897105 School/Division: School of Business Department: Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Scott Skodnek Business Development Center Full-Time or Part-Time: Full-Time Description: Reporting to the Executive Director of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE), the Director, Institute of Innovation and
Entrepreneurship, will be primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and logistics of the IIE and leading strategic programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develops and coordinates strategic partnerships to support the mission of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Represents the IIE in the absence of the Executive Director. Manages direct reports, including Assistant and Associate Directors. Seeks opportunities for program expansion and works with the Assistant Director for Grant Writing and Management to identify sustainable funding sources. Works with the Executive Director and Assistant Director for Grant Writing and Management to monitor and develop annual budgets and prepare monthly reports.
Works with the Executive Director to build and manage a technology transfer and commercialization infrastructure. Works with the Assistant Director for Faculty and Student Initiatives to manage the Maker Space. Markets and manages the idea HUb incubator, recruiting tenants, and maintaining relationships with tenants. Reviews program materials and marketing materials developed by the staff of the IIE. Acts as a liaison to other academic and administrative units at the University. Manages the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence program.
Coordinates meetings and communications with the Advisory Board. Recruits and works with consultants, including developing/monitoring their scope of work as it relates to programs. Makes public presentations when needed, both on the Hofstra campus and in the community. Serves as New York State Certification Assistance Program Director. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Master’s degree in business administration or a related field required. Minimum of seven to ten years of experience with managing the day-to-day operations and logistics of an accelerator, incubator, center for business development, entrepreneurship, innovation or technology transfer and commercialization.
Experience with interacting with government and/or community and economic development-based organizations and with managing grant-funded projects. Superior writing, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills. Self-motivated with the ability to independently set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in an effective and efficient manner. Full proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office and Google Documents. Ability to work with confidential data and demonstrate discretion in all interactions.
Excellent time-management, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Collaborative spirit and ability to work with a variety of people and personalities. Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
