Position Summary: The Network Administrator I is responsible for the implementation, security, maintenance and support of university networks, network infrastructure and telephony systems. The incumbent provides network and systems support for other WITS staff and the university at

large. The Network Administrator I shares the responsibility for the successful operation of the systems and network devices which provide network infrastructure in an environment of over 2000 users.

Works alone and as a team-member on a wide variety of projects that have a direct impact upon the university. Provides end-user support and troubleshooting for escalated service-related issues. Involves some contact with students, faculty and staff as well as with individuals and organizations outside of the university. JOB DUTIES The duties and responsibilities of the Network Administrator include, but are not limited to, the following functions: Assists in design of, implements, documents, and maintains networks, network devices and infrastructure systems required for network access. Implements, maintains and documents Vo IP telephony systems. Maintains cabling for network equipment installations. Shares responsibility for the university's connections to the internet. Shares responsibility for the university's firewall and network security systems including security scans, endpoint security and malware prevention.

Acts as an IT security resource for network, datacenter, endpoint and enterprise application security. Continually improves network stability, reliability, resilience and security. Plans for and specifies new or replacement network hardware and software. Documents and makes recommendations for improvements to cable plant. Designs, documents, implements, and maintains processes, scripts, or programs for systems and network management using available application programming interfaces (APIs) and tools.

Serves as a resource for identifying and solving network related hardware and software problems. Other duties as assigned. The Network Administrator serves as a member of the WITS Network Services group, which oversees and performs functions pertinent to the implementation of hardware, software and network services on campus. These include, but are not limited to: Managing the operation, activities and services of the campus computing networks; Supporting network software, including some application development and maintenance; Maintaining and monitoring the connectivity to off-campus networks, including the Internet; Performing system administration of networked servers and appliances; Maintaining security of the campus computer network; Researching and recommending software and hardware solutions for stated needs; Performing service calls for network related problems on campus; Writing applications using various scripts, macros, and programming languages.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of electrical and laser safety.

A minimum of two years work experience supporting a complex, heterogeneous network of more than 500 devices. Demonstrated knowledge of switch and router configuration. Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analysis of network-related issues, including reviewing packet captures. Familiarity with Vo IP systems, components and configuration. Cisco Unified Communications preferred. Experience with low-voltage network cabling and wiring preferred. Experience with firewall configuration, network ACLs and security auditing tools such as Nessus. Familiarity with network routing concepts.

Detailed knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, ARP, etc. Familiarity with wireless network troubleshooting. Demonstrated knowledge of network configuration and troubleshooting on Linux, Windows, OSX, i OS and Android operating systems. Familiarity with one or more scripting languages, for example: perl, python, ruby, bash, Power Shell. Familiarity with network, server, desktop and application security practices, standards, and relevant laws and regulations. Ability to write clear technical documentation. Strong service orientation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.

A proven ability to make technical issues understandable, and an ability to match technical opportunities to university goals. Ability to reside in Oregon by the first day of employment or otherwise perform work primarily in Oregon. Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree. Experience with Active Directory, RADIUS, network monitoring software, Windows and Linux systems administration and other relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement.

Typical Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Occasional hours outside this schedule. Incumbent may be required to travel locally and nationally in the performance of job functions, and may be required to carry a pager or cellular telephone and be available for emergency support and after-hours scheduled maintenance. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Working conditions can include extended periods of walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting objects, and pushing/pulling heavy carts of equipment while often exposed to dirt, dust, odors and inclement weather in areas sometimes dimly-lit, noisy, and confined to small spaces.

SALARY: $60,000 All University positions require that candidates submit to a criminal conviction record check prior to hire. Conviction does not automatically preclude candidates from being hired.
