CARS employs Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with decades of experience working in the Federal marketplace. The Sr. Software Engineer is a Python developer position building the next-generation image processing software using AI/ML for a government customer. Support the existing Python software and development of new Python services for a highly distributed architecture that supports
microservices that process remote sensing geospatial data. In addition, supports existing applications and contributes to new designs that support emerging requirements.
Responsibilities Work closely with geospatial users, supporting their mission using image-processing algorithms. Collaborate with other developers and teams to establish an enterprise system utilizing COTS, FOSS, and GOTS software. Development and support of a test-driven CI/CD pipeline is also required for supported applications. Recommend the best designs based on customer business objectives, timelines, and other resource constraints. Work closely with other engineers to develop the best technical design and approach
for new product development. Ensure the team adheres to Agile processes and best practices.
Resolve roadblocks for the development team, working collaboratively with the Product Owner, technical leadership, and other engineers. Plan and estimate development tasks and work to improve performance metrics. Design, build, and test software upgrades and modifications. Develop information systems by studying operations. Design, develop, and install software solutions. Support and develop with other members of the software team. Research, design, develop, and/or modify enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software. Plan system and development deployment and meet software compliance standards.
Support the following programming languages and systems: C++, JAVA, Solaris, and SQL Evaluate the interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, and overall system characteristics. Document testing and maintenance of system corrections. Support, execute, and validate applications transition, and perform support capabilities. Implement COTS and other third-party, product updates. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 8+ years relevant experience OR Associate degree and 10+ years relevant experience OR High school diploma or GED equivalent and 12+ years of relevant experience 5+ years of Software Development experience Cloud certifications such as AWS Dev Ops Engineer or similar.
Software engineering and development skills in multiple SW languages used in the program. Experience with Python, Java, Java Script, and CI/CD development Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the use of debuggers TS/SCI clearance required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience with geospatial web solutions. Experience with Docker/RKS/Rancher. Experience with Java Frameworks (Spring, Hibernate) and RESTful web services.
Experience with Java Script Frameworks and tools. Support the Agile software development lifecycle following Program SAFe practices. Experience with building front-end or back-end Java applications and Python Cloud certifications such as AWS Dev Ops Engineer or similar. Demonstrated technical skills in data management and working knowledge of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS). Support the Agile software development lifecycle following Program SAFe practices. Experience with a version control system (e. g. Git, and Jenkins). Working experience with Java Script Frameworks such as Angular and React JS.
Experience with leveraging Atlassian tool suites like JIRA and Confluence to track activities Software development and engineering skills in multiple SW languages. Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals. Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others. Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications.
Experience working in a home office setting as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.
