MISSION / SUMMARY: This position is designed to support the internal talent development initiatives of Graphic Packaging International. Those interested in advancing their careers in the printing/packaging, converting, and paper making industry will find this role particularly interesting. The position is heavily focused on development and learning in regard to GPI's manufacturing processes, value proposition and business objectives as this position is intended to serve as a catalyst for promotional opportunities and our ongoing talent development efforts. Incumbents must remain willing to promote to higher level roles when positions become available and their manager(s) feels they have achieved the level of experience and training necessary to perform at a higher level.
This includes continued willingness to relocate for those opportunities - Graphic Packaging operates in multiple states across the US in both metropolitan and rural areas. Incumbents are targeted to remain in this role for one to four years depending on your existing level of experience, performance in role, learning, and the number and timing of vacancies that create an opportunity for advancement.
Supervisor positions may be on days or nights and may follow a M-F schedule or may work rotating 12 hour shifts that rotate every other weekend off. It's key to remember that future advancement opportunities are almost always on M-F, regular business hour, schedules. In addition to the learning opportunity that comes with this position the primary responsibility of the Production Supervisor is to work directly with and supervise a production workforce of approximately 50+/- employees per shift. This person will have responsibility for the day to day management for all aspects of the production floor, with Safety as a top priority, assuring that work is produced in accordance with operating targets.
He or she ensures compliance with established customer quality and production standards. They understand and align plant operations & production with the Customer Support group as he/she executes their role in the overall order fulfillment process to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives. JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following. Serves as the primary back up to the Department Manager Leads, mentors, and manages work force to ensure compliance with operational expectations, policies, and procedures for both local and corporate policies.
Works with department trainer to plan, organize and schedule training assignments for all department employees, ensuring timely completion Works with HR to coordinate all training validation requirements. Responsible for maintaining employee schedules in coordination with HR using the approved time keeping system. Primary for validating and management of employee timekeeping (clocking in and out) and compliance with site attendance policy Supervises and facilitates work assignments with department leads to oversee the day-to-day shift activities of team.
Responsible for meeting production objectives and quality expectations. Works with department manager to administer corrective action as needed and in a timely manner. maintains a safe work environment. Works with quality team to research, and determine root causes of defects or quality incidents Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures.
Must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of SQF/5's and other company standards. Must be supportive of GPI's Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork). Must support on going activities aligning with LEAN, 5's, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes. Have considerable understanding of business processes and expectations to better support customer requirements and maximize delivery results that meet or exceed customer expectations. Display leadership courage as required to address and correct unacceptable behavior, performance and conduct.

Prior supervisory experience EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Four-year technical degree in Engineering, Printing, or Packaging. (Engineering degrees preferred include Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial. ) Advanced degree beneficial but not required. Must be willing to relocate to the area of the current opening and for future opportunities. SKILLS: Demonstrated leadership ability & ongoing desire to develop a managerial career. Demonstrated technical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to motivate people. Excellent communication skills.
Highly skilled in Microsoft office applications. SCHEDULE DEMANDS: General Production Supervisor schedules consist of 12-hour rotating days - generally includes every other weekend off, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or off weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 12-hours. Occasional Lifting up to 25 lbs. Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
