What you will do! In this Clinical Veterinarian role, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the surgical program; supervision of the surgical vet techs as well as intermediate and advanced ability to assist and perform surgical procedures. Participates in the design of research projects and experiments; confer and consistently interact with investigators and staff regarding the type of animal research conducted, provide advice on veterinary clinical considerations,
animal health and welfare, training, procedures, numbers and/or care of the animals, as well as monitors results and recommends modifications of ongoing studies.
You will administer, or direct the administration, of treatment(s) as appropriate; perform and document post-mortem examination of animals-both for the purpose of providing information for a research project or in terms of determining a health issue within the facility. These may include the performance of hematology, parasitology, microbiology, and clinical pathology lab tests and procedures. Provide training and coordinate training records for vet techs in addition to the ARCH staff as it relates for animal care and health.
You will perform routine audits of shop, surgical records, environmental enrichment, and other audits; perform daily health backssments, technical functions, develop treatment plans and provide anesthesia support to all surgical cases. In collaboration with other staff members, the IACUC and the IACUC Office administration, you will contribute substantially to the institution’s comprehensive program to provide humane care and use of research animals and help to assure compliance and serve as a voting member of the IACUC. Who are we looking for? A candidate that possesses a DVM or a certificate of training accepted by the AVMA.
Must have exposure to field of Laboratory Animal medicine; and participation in 2-5 externships during veterinary school or employment at an institution with a laboratory animal facility required. In addition, at least 1-2 years of experience with surgery and anesthesia in USDA covered species. Must have Licensure to practice vet medicine in a least 1 U. S. state. The pay range for this position is $145,000 - $160,000 USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
