About the Forensic Scientist 1 position: This is training level forensic science work learning the methods and techniques involved in the preservation, examination, handling, and comparative analysis of items of evidence collected in criminal investigations.
Positions in this class are allocated to one of five areas of assignment: Biology, Chemistry, Crime Scene, Digital Evidence, or Pattern Evidence. Positions allocated to the Pattern Evidence specialty may be assigned to one of the following disciplines: Documents, Firearms/Toolmarks, or Latent Prints. Positions allocated to the Pattern Evidence specialty are assigned to one of the following disciplines: Documents, Firearms/Toolmarks, or Latent Prints. An important aspect of the work is serving on interdisciplinary committees within the Office of Forensic Science of the Philadelphia Police Department. Works under the mentorship of an established principal investigator to conduct research in a specific scientific area. Conducts experiments without direct supervision; develops research projects with the guidance of the principal investigator. Develops new experimental procedures and hypotheses for further investigation. Prepares manuscripts and abstracts for publication, publishes scientific articles in refereed journals, presents at scientific symposiums. Collaborates
and interacts with other researchers within CHOP - RI and at other institutions.
Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals. Serves as resource person for colleagues and as a mentor for less experienced research personnel. May manage/supervise other research staff or projects; assists with the management of laboratory operations. This role is an experienced researcher that plans, coordinates and executes research projects within the CHOP Sleep Center, which is an interdisciplinary team that conducts clinical/translational research focused on pediatric sleep health, with a particular interest in the evaluation and management of obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep and circadian disorders in children.

Basic disassembly and cleaning: - Ability to work off of verbal and written instructions - Safely remove motors, tunnel housings, fluid couplings, and prep equipment for cleaning and rebuild - Ability to operate or learn to operate overhead crane, forklift, and Bobcat - Use hand and pneumatic tools and hand torch - Disassemble equipment working with tech I or II, or with supervisor - Thoroughly clean and prep parts for assembly - Paint equipment and prep for shipping Basic assembly: - Read Prints for disassembly, inspection and assembly - Basic understanding of hydraulics
and electro hydraulics along with the ability to read schematics/diagrams - Capable of understanding and performing all that is required to remanufacture components and perform final testing - Ability to perform basic trouble shooting (hydraulic, electronic sensors, mechanical) - Understand Math- (Arithmetic, basic Trigonometry, decimal conversion) - Ability to use various types of precision measuring tools Degrees or Other Special Requirements : Education and Experience: - High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
- Qualification to operate fork trucks/tow motors is required. - Familiarity with overhead cranes is preferred. - Two or more years of experience in
a mechanical field is preferred. - Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or trade school is preferred.
