Position Summary Primary responsibilities, as the technical specialist for the NS&E global business unit, include responsibility for customer, community, functional and government interfaces in relation to sustainability and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analyses.
Provide specialist advice to global project management teams and business development teams for management of sustainability, climate change related issues including carbon backssments, community relations and engagement, local content, social impact management and workforce integration. Assists in
the development of National NEPA documentation, site selection studies, environmental permitting inputs, and nuclear safety analyses, for assigned projects.
Additional responsibilities assisting in the integration of specialized environmental requirements into the planning, permitting, design, and construction of Bechtel projects. Has responsibility for interpreting specialized requirements, evaluating and applying specialized scientific principles, and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving the desired objectives. Provides technical assistance to other Environmental Services (ES) Scientists/Engineers. Job Dimensions Supervision Received Receives technical and administrative supervision from a Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, or group/department manager with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
Contacts Maintains relationships with internal Bechtel organizations (e. g. Engineering, Construction, and Subcontracts) to coordinate technical/scientific issues and implementation of sustainability and ES functional responsibilities into project proposals, designs, construction plans, and subcontractor bid packages. Maintains contact, as appropriate, with government regulatory and resource agencies to obtain current information on new regulations, program initiatives, and technical requirements and standards.
Maintains contact with other ES personnel to keep them informed of changing requirements and to provide technical assistance as needed. Maintains contact with customers to exchange information on Sustainability and ES issues, technical information, and new technologies. Responsibilities Reviews and analyzes carbon footprint data and develops recommendations for footprint reduction for projects and offices. Develops NEPA documentation for NS&E projects. Supports licensing program efforts for specific projects as assigned by the Environmental Engineering Chief.
Performing analysis and conceptual study-level reports. Performing air dispersion modeling for various projects. Assisting with Environmental Impact backssments and client permitting applications. Provides strategic support to project teams on potential community impacts, expectations, and related implications; backsses consequences of project decisions; and works with project functional teams to develop proactive solutions to community and environmental issues to minimize external risks and manage public expectations.
Provides support for safety data analytics and ISO 14001 data. Provides technical support to feasibility studies, site backssment studies, and permitting. Qualifications and Skills Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with at least 3 years of experience in an engineering field (environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical). In lieu of a degree at least 9 years of professional related experience. Must be authorized to live and work in the U. S. without sponsorship" and questions can remain the same. Additional Qualifications Knowledge of NRC and DOE regulations pertaining to NEPA analyses.
Knowledge of construction planning, estimating, procedures, and execution. Demonstrated familiarity of major global sustainability principles, standards, and codes of conduct. Possess skills needed to reduce complex sustainability issues into core components and key business impacts. Specialized knowledge in Sustainability and a field of science (e. g. geographical information systems (GIS) meteorology, atmospheric dispersion, wetlands, archeology), engineering (e. g. civil, environmental, mechanical) or related disciplines.
Knowledge of environmental management, monitoring and mitigation systems, principles, and methodologies. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations and resource agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
