MD, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. The early Vaccines and Immune Therapies department at Astra Zeneca is developing new and innovative vaccines against bacterial pathogens.
We're constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We're pioneering innovative research and exploring novel platforms to deliver vaccines against viral and bacterial pathogens. We're industry-leading in immunology, protein engineering and translational science. We offer a unique and strong collaborative network as part
of the Astra Zeneca family, as together we explore synergies between small and large molecules. Astra Zeneca has a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and innovation.
We attract top minds and we nurture and build top talents. What You'll Do Design, develop, and implement in vitro and in vivo experiments to characterize and validate novel targets against bacterial pathogens. Essential For the Role: A Master's degree with 4-6 years of experience or Bachelor's degree with 6-10 years of equivalent experience in assay development, bacteriology, cell biology, and in-vivo work. A successful candidate will be a well-grounded critical thinker who can design and implement in vitro (bacterial
biofilm and cell attachment assays, bacteria functional activity assays such as serum bactericidal, opsonophagocytic killing and anti-cytotoxic assays) and in vivo studies (mouse lung infection, bacteremia) and correlate these activities to backss the potential efficacy of monoclonal antibodies against bacterial pathogens.
Broad and strong experience with relevant cellular and antibody-based immunological techniques to characterize and select anti-bacterial monoclonal antibodies (e. g. FACS, western blot, ELISA, bacterial culture, bacteria cell-based ELISA, surface and intra-cellular target staining for cytofluorimetry) is required. In vitro based assays to quantify pro-inflammatory mediators in animals (ELISA, Luminex and MSD platforms, cell-based assays) Experience in animal procedure (intraperitoneal, intranasal, intravenous injections), bacterial disease models (lung infection, bacteremia) The candidate must be an effective oral and written communicator with a demonstrable track record of quality publications.
In addition, the individual must be dedicated to maintaining high laboratory standards, good record keeping, with high regard to quality and safety and must possess good organizational and interpersonal skills in a highly interactive multidisciplinary team oriented environment.
