The CGB conducts interdisciplinary research to advance the understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of cancer and to translate this knowledge into effective evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies for cancer-prone populations as well as general population. The CEU has a large research portfolio on human papillomavirus (HPV)-related basic and translational epidemiologic research projects.
The CEU also conducts basic and translational epidemiologic research projects on other gynecologic cancer and other epithelial tumors such as oral cavity, head-and-neck, and lung cancers.
Study-derived biospecimens are routinely leveraged into collaborative, laboratory-based, etiologically oriented analyses of genomics and molecular susceptibility. The Staff Scientist, working under the direction of a Senior Investigator within the CEU, will have responsibilities related to all aspects of the investigator's global health-oriented research program examining the etiology, prevention, and control of HPV-related anogenital cancer, breast cancer, and oral cavity cancer. Specific duties will
include coordinating study design (e. g. developing protocols, questionnaires, and specimen handling procedures) and implementation, study management (data coding and cleaning, specimen tracking, and human subjects' approvals), statistical analysis, shared mentoring and supervision, and preparation of reports for presentation or publication.

Responsibilities Develop high-quality written materials derived from analysis of data and information. Assist and work collaboratively with the OGR Regional Officers and other staff to support the management of research resources, technical administration, and programmatic evaluation of funded grants and other activities. The project works closely with operational groups in NWS, NASA/JPL, EUMETSAT and the Navy, and utilizes near real-time Environmental Data Record (EDR) processing systems to develop, validate, produce and deliver environmental data products to these groups. Efforts will focus on the project's Ocean
Winds near real-time product processing and validation systems at STAR and the preparation and integration tasks for processing these data streams. The Ocean Surface Winds Project also maintains and operates two advanced aircraft radar systems that are routinely installed on the NOAA P-3 aircraft for hurricane and winter storm flights.
The data collected from these flights are utilized to advance the state of knowledge of the air-sea interactions in the extremes, validate and improve satellite observations, and test new remote sensing methodologies and technologies. Position Summary: The Ocean Surface Winds Support Scientist shall provide the scientific & engineering work to augment the
Ocean Surface Winds (OSW) Project's existing capabilities. The main objectives of this task are to develop, validate and improve satellite OSW products, and to develop and apply metrics that allow us to quantify the impacts of these data in operational short-term forecasts and warnings in the marine environment, and to improve utilization of these data by forecasters.
This position will involve working closely with the NWS, the NESDIS OSW Science Team and the external science community. Microwave sensors of interst include Quik SCAT, ASCAT, Scat Sat, CYGNSS, SSM/I, AMSR2, Sea Winds, TMI, GMI, SMAP and Wind SAT and multiple future sensors.
