Success and Research Analytics, the Data Scientist conducts and leads data science projects, creates models and dashboards for publication on the web, for dissemination to stakeholders, and utilize statistical software packages to inform modeling and reporting.
The data scientist tests and identifies appropriate programming for student success, analyzes new markets for potential recruitment and recommends scholarship strategies. The incumbent works extensively with units within the Provost Office and across the University to leverage data to inform local decision making on operational issues. The data scientist possesses highly analytical and communication skills particularly for highly
complex information in clear and simple language. In addition, the incumbent has the ability to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured, hypothesis-driven, data-supported way.
Strong knowledge of data architecture with technical skills in big data, and data warehousing. The Data Scientist must be assertive, adaptable, and demonstrating initiative in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities; has strong business acumen to translate data capabilities into outcomes that align with University objectives and support real-time decision making. Essential Functions Design, develop and validate data science methods in the domains of exploratory and in machine learning (ML) and in the areas of natural language processing (NLP) Collaborate with technical teams to access and transform data needed for analysis.
Develop and maintain systems documentation related to project configurations and visualizations. Analyze and recommend appropriate technologies and service options to develop and enhance the unit's operations and services. Effectively translate and communicate outputs in the form of actionable insights and recommendations for cross-functional teams and leadership to enable strategic and tactical decision making. Track key performance indicators and metrics related to new student enrollment, scholarships, and other recruitment initiatives.
Use data reporting tools available on campus and through third-party entities (e. g. National Student Clearinghouse, College Board, ACT, etc. ) to analyze enrollment trends. Standardize KPIs, dashboards, data sources, etc. for simplicity, scale, as well as cost optimization. Develop a strategy for data enrichment opportunities across marketing data in line with data governance and ethics standards, including sustainability and equity. Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Hybrid Onsite This position offers a hybrid opportunity to work both remotely and onsite and therefore requires that the incumbent reside within a commutable distance to Greater Cincinnati Required Education Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field. (Graduate Degree a plus) Required Experience Three (3) years of relevant experience. Demonstrated track record of results in exploratory data analysis and visualization, projects in AI, machine learning, deep learning, and human-centered AI, open source applications, databases, and cloud-based infrastructure.
Additional Qualifications Considered Master’s Degree. Experience with Python Experience in Java Script and related libraries. Experience supporting Amazon Web Services, MS Azure, etc. Experience supporting library and digital repository infrastructure. Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
