Common cases/Diagnosis: CABG, Valve, Minimal-invasive Mitral surgery, Aortic Surgery, Minimally Invasive CABG, VAD implantations, PTE cases, Heart and Lung transplants. ECMO – Perfusionist required for initiation and transportation of the patient to and from the Operating Room. ECMO covered by team of ECMO Specialists in ICU.
Typical Day/Week: Mon-Fri 6a-2:30p. Patient enters the room at 0700 for morning cases.
Circuit must be assembled, primed and ready for patient at this time. Morning cases typically leave the OR 1030 – 1200. After lunch, prepare CPB circuits for the afternoon cases and assist in administrative and departmental duties. Dismissed when allowed (based on n + 1 model). May have interest in someone working 4 days per week with longer shifts. Common type of equipment used: Spectrum Heart Lung Machine (all roller heads)- A traveler needing to be taught how to use this machine may need to commit to a longer-term contract. Quest 2/3 Cardioplegia Machine (Del Nido and Microplegia)- the Quest 3 is a newer device, but Quest 2 is an industry standard; traveler may be familiar with this technology.
Getinge Cardiohelp ECMO Pumps- common ECMO platform, travelers should be familiar with this technology. Cell saver – Medtronic Auto Log IQ system.
