SUMMARY: The Career and Education Development Counselor DESE programs in the Center for Adult Education will advise, coordinate, and document students enrolled in DESE ESOL programs using a Learning Management System or in person and provide learners with support service and guidance to assist them in meeting their educational and career goals.
DESE programs in the CAE provide ESOL language learning opportunities for the Lawrence community student population, in conjunction with equity and social justice initiatives in support of the College as a Hispanic Serving Institution. RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties for this position include: Provide education and career planning and advising
for employment and education opportunities Meet with students in the Mass STEP and Transition to College Programs to: identify education and career goals, develop an Education and Career Plan (ECP); and set a realistic timeline for attaining each goal and a means for determining whether the goals are achieved Monitor student's educational progress and goal achievement quarterly through regular check-ins and meetings, beginning at enrollment Document and maintain all advising in a confidential record Collaborate with instructors to ensure that student goals inform instruction Participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the team and the department Provide group instruction utilizing lessons
from resources such as Virtual Job Shadow, SABES' Integrating Career Awareness (ICA), and the Mass CIS website to inform ECPs, including career searches, market trends (job growth), training/education needed, etc.
Collaborate with center advisers to develop community and employment contacts, plan, and schedule speakers and events pertinent to education and careers Develop contacts with community and college resources and refer students as needed to enhance academic supports and address barriers to attendance Use labor market trend information to inform career planning Assist students in the development of an employment portfolio including a resume, cover letter, as well as in interview preparation and other soft skill development Assist Coordinators with intake, backssment, recruitment Collaborate with the Data Specialist to provide appropriate student goals information and to ensure that the results of goal follow-up are entered in SMARTT Participate in professional development as required The Classification Specification is available at: www.

Additional Information: GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated salary is $57,249 - $62,448 (MCCC Pay Grade 4 with a Bachelor's degree) annually with complete fringe benefit package.
