Nurse and works under the general supervision of the ASSISTANT COMM HEALTH NURSING DIRECTOR.
Incumbent provides clinical services, professional support and technical assistance to staff, community agencies, and the public. This position requires experience in a busy clinic setting with a variety of duties in Immunizations, Family Planning, STD and Refugee Health services.
This position will be required to perform duties at multiple sites within the county to include, but not limited to, Florida Department of Health in Volusia County locations as well as sites established/co-located within the community in conjunction with community partners. This position requires travel between
various sites within Volusia County. The employee is expected to arrive at assigned location (daily) on time at the provided start time. Mileage will only be paid in accordance with State policies for travel to different service site locations within the county.
This is a responsible position requiring excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate the knowledge, skill and abilities for nursing protocols indentified in this class. Must conform to the standards set forth in the personnel rules and regulations and the written policies of FDOH and DOH-Volusia. Must be able to communicate, build rapport and educate effectively teens, young adults and
adults on interactionually transmitted diseases, family planning, and immunizations including assisting providers in exam rooms, laboratory testing and phlebotomy, treatment and prevention.
It requires the ability to obtain patient histories, current health backssments, counseling, patient education, referrals to community resources, scheduling in-house and outpatient procedures, assist providers, ability to perform prescribed treatments, administer medications, give immunizations, change medical dressings, and draw blood for testing as well as other laboratory work. Gathers and records pertinent data/information on client records from backssment and interview process.
Provides appropriate client education and counseling related to each health services program. Reviews electronic health record and service coding for completeness, accuracy and quality assurance purposes. Assists providers with examinations, physicals and other procedures as necessary. Responsible for issuing prescribed medications/birth control/ECP per DOH-Volusia Nurse Issuance Protocol and/or under the direction of a provider. Administers injectable medications/birth control/immunizations as appropriate. Performs phlebotomy services and routine laboratory testing, including pregnancy tests, rapid Hep C and HIV.
Reviews vaccination records and status to provide direct immunization services which includes the education, counseling and administration of immunizations to children and adults, and travelers per CDC, ACIP, VFC, FDOH and DOH-Volusia guidelines. Updates vaccination records in FL SHOTS and issues appropriate documentation, i. e. Form 680 and religious exemptions in accordance in the agency policy. Assists in setting up examination rooms, preparing instruments for various procedures, maintaining the care of instruments and equipment, cleaning and wrapping instruments, cleaning exam rooms at the end of clinic each day, restocking rooms and maintaining work area.
Assists with the orientation of students, new staff members and cross-training fellow clinical employees. Provides direction and assistance to Licensed Practical Nurses. Provides clinical services at community-based outreach clinics to include, but not limited to, the provision of family planning, immunizations and STD screening and treatment listed above. Other duties as assigned. Attends and participates in staff development, such as team/staff meetings and in-service training/continuing education.
