Anticipates and prepares for new admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN per protocol. Ensures all patient care equipment in patient room is clean. Performs required unit secretary tasks as needed, including
but not limited to answering telephones and call lights, order entry, ordering of stock, maintenance requests form replenishment and breaking down completed charts.
Promptly communicates urgent/STAT information, orders/results to the appropriate nurse. Safely transports, transfers and ambulates patients using appropriate body mechanics and equipment. Performs care rounds purposefully addressing patient needs. Responds to patient needs and calls in a timely manner regardless of individual patient assignment. Adheres to Fall Prevention Program. Reports problems and resolutions of problems regarding patients, team members, visitors, etc. to nurse. Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
Minimize hospital acquired infections by compliance with isolation procedures, restocking of isolation supplies, performing appropriate hand hygiene, maintaining cleanliness of clinical equipment as required by Prevention Infection guidelines and policies. Tags and reports equipment and environmental repair needs to the Charge RN, NM, and submits work order via Intranet. Assures the Environment of Care is maintained according to regulatory guidelines. Provides direct observation and care to patients needing 1:1 observation for suicide, psychological needs, other diagnosis(s), or safety needs.
Assists with management of aggressive behavior. Updates patient communication boards as directed. Enhances patient and family experience by: courteous and compassionate interactions with patient and families; compliance with professional dress code per policy; places patient's personal items within safe and convenient reach of patient. Maintains cleanliness and quietness of the patient room and unit environment. Provides a healing and quiet environment for the patient. Promptly responds to all patient needs and calls in a timely manner to ensure patient safety and maximize the patient experience.
Respects patient privacy by always knocking before entering room and providing dignity and respect when assisting patient with ADL's Acts as preceptor for new technician orientees, under the direction of RN, NM and Educator. Attends all mandatory education and successfully completes department specific annual competencies, as defined by the ERDD.
