Health and Safety Specialist Duties: Demonstrate a personal commitment to health and safety,
functioning as a safety leader and motivator Drive the advancement of occupational health and safety culture and performance beyond compliance to the regulatory requirements Provide health and safety-related guidance, recommendations, risk management, compliance assurance and support for all operational activities in the facility Spend time in the field working with operations, crafts, and contractors to conduct hazard backssments, job planning, hazard abatement, compliance verification and training Serve a functional capacity role within the Emergency Response Team during drills and emergency response incidents.
Develop, implement, and revise policies, procedures, and programs on a variety
of health and safety-related topics Work proactively to evaluate health and safety-related improvement opportunities Lead, coordinate, and participate in a variety of auditing initiatives Based on proactive backssments, utilize resources to implement effective and sustainable changes Review, organize, and interpret audit data and develop and implement strategies to correct findings Lead, coordinate, and participate in incident investigations and proactive learning teams Ensure meaningful corrective and preventative actions are developed, documented, and tracked Conduct field surveys, sampling, and monitoring using a variety of instruments necessary for permitting activities and for the assurance of workforce safe working conditions Develop and deliver health and safety-related training Serve as an active participant in the Management of Change (MOC), Pre Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) processes Support the industrial hygiene program by coordinating and conducting monitoring / testing activities along with associated follow-up activities Monitor and evaluate emerging health and safety regulatory requirements for business impact and assist in the implementation to ensure continued compliance Monitor industry best practices to ensure continuous improvement Work with both employees and contractors to ensure understanding of site-specific requirements and overall safety requirements Participate as appropriate in industry trade association working groups Health and Safety Specialist Requirements: High levels of Trust, Humility, Character, Integrity, Resolve, and Respect B.
S. degree in applicable field, preferred Five years of experience in the refining or chemical processing industry, required Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, DOT, API, and USCG standards relating to the refining industry Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety professional (ASP), or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), preferred Requires a self-motivated person that is detail-oriented with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to effectively interact with all levels within an organization Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and industry partners Charismatic leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence others Ability to think strategically and simplify complex issues Excellent technical writing and presentation skills, preferred Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point) Ergon Refining, Inc.

Develop, track, and improve safety audits of equipment such as cranes, rigging, forklifts, eye wash stations, ARC flash PPE, instrument calibration, etc. Communicates with suppliers and machine shops to ensure quality parts and services. Build, update, and maintain equipment files in SAP Utilization of Maintain X to manage spare parts inventory, work orders, and compliance programs Promotes and aids in maintaining a clean and well-organized shop, office, and fleet vehicles. Available for out-of-town, overnight assignments.
