Position Summary The Legal Assistant will play a key role in supporting the in-house legal department for DCC Propane to meet its legal, compliance, and risk management functions. The Legal Assistant will do this by providing proactive, in-depth legal and business knowledge to the Director of Legal Affairs. The Legal Assistant will report to the Director of Legal Affairs. The position is on location and not eligible for remote work.
General Duties and Responsibilities Open and sort department mail, prepare letters for signature and mailing of those letters.
Maintain calendar and tickler system to ensure timely action taken on all matters. Conducting searches via online and public filings for various matters including but not limited to estate filings. Retrieving archived files and other materials as needed. Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence and other documents as needed. Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system. Meeting with attorneys, and other professionals to talk about file details. Filing pleadings/documents with county and court clerks. Helping prepare for trial/administrative hearings by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
Preparing drafts of contracts, real estate documents, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents. Coordinating law department activity. Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data. Keeping law library current by monitoring legal volumes. Monitor bankruptcy notices received and preparing and filing on-line Proofs of Claim when needed. Perform a wide variety of clerical, technical, and administrative office support duties to assist Director of Legal Affairs.
Research and assist with matters relating to corporate compliance. Assist legal department with special projects and other duties as assigned. Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel. Strong research, oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment. Office administration experience. Must possess strong critical thinking skills, combined with sound judgement, the ability to backss complex issues and come up with reasonable solutions.
Ability to determine priorities and schedule work. Ability to communicate and present legal and other matters clearly, calmly and cogently both verbally and in writing. Ability to assist the DCC Propane legal and compliance team with the development and implementation of procedures, controls, practices, and systems. Experience/Education Associates degree in paralegal studies with at least 2 years prior paralegal work experience or at least five (5) years prior paralegal work experience.
