The Senior Defense Base Act (DBA) Claims Representative, under the direction of the Claims Team Leader or Manager, investigates and settles claims promptly, equitably and within established best practices guidelines.

KEY OBJECTIVE: Responsible for managing claim high exposure files on the Defense Base Act team. This individual will be responsible for DBA claims and also include Longshore and Foreign Voluntary Comp claims if/when applicable. The specialist will play a critical leadership role in effectively managing

this unique book of business. They will also be responsible for working with the DBA Manager and Claim Vice President to successfully implement local business plans focusing on claims quality, customer service, staff development and expense management.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages the activities of claims files and negotiations to assure swift and efficient claims services to ESIS customers to include claimants, clients, brokers, and carriers. Determines and recommends claims settlement authority. Retains higher settlement authority for cases beyond the scope of subordinates and may personally settle such cases. Coordinates and handles structured settlements. Maintains positive

relationships with customers and brokers serviced. Ensures quality and timeliness of service provided and designs and implements action plans to correct deficiencies as appropriate.

Establishes loss reserves to reflect probable company obligation both personally and through subordinate team members. Reviews and modifies reserves as necessary. Participates with team lead and AVP/CVP as needed regarding files and manages and controls expenses by ensuring adequate vendor assignments. May be assigned other duties or represent claims department at various insurance activities in the absence of the Claim Vice President or Manager. May have some administrative/operations oversight responsibility.

May participate in ESIS sales & marketing presentations for the book of business. Demonstrates skills in the following competencies: Strategic Leadership, Business Acumen, Orientation to Results, Change Leadership, Influencing Outcomes, Focus on Development and Courage. QUALIFICATIONS: 5-10 years of equivalent work experience in DBA or Longshore Claims/ Harbor Workers' Compensation Strong customer orientation and experience supporting customer needs. Strong written and oral communication to effectively provide service to internal and external customers.

Strong analytical and organizational skills. Strong computer systems experience and experience in an automated environment. Works well within a team environment; focus on self-development. Committed to high standards of behavior and performance. An applicable resident or designated home state adjuster's license is required for ESIS Field Claims Adjusters. Adjusters that do not fulfill the license requirements will not meet ESIS's employment requirements for handling claims.
