Job Summary: Manufacturing Design Engineers Provide technical manufacturing support to a program from the early development phases through transition to production.
They participate in manufacturing and test requirements development, design for manufacturing activities, manufacturing process development and factory capabilities analysis to ensure factory readiness and improve product producibility. They leverage technical knowledge of manufacturing capabilities,
product technologies, factory requirements and business processes to establish and execute the manufacturing plan and influence technical program decisions to support the overall program value stream.
Responsibilities to Anticipate: Acting as the manufacturing and producibility authority within the program Establishing engineering design requirements tailored to manufacturing processes Leveraging knowledge and technical skills to influence business decisions and results from new designs through transition to production Managing large scale design, control, and improvements to the manufacturing process Identifying and resolving constraints across the program Participating in corrective
action investigation Providing technical input and peer review to engineering designs and design changes Developing Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool, and fixture designs Providing technical guidance and problem solving to factory engineers Leading Continuous Improvement through design and process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to operators, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making Developing and implementing manufacturing process control and performance monitoring Leading cross-factory strategic improvement projects Leading cross-functional program strategic initiatives Developing influential relationships with internal and external customers Mentoring, coaching, and training other MDEs, PEs, and/or MEs.
Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience. Experience within a manufacturing environment The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U. S. government issued security clearance is required. U. S. citizenship is required, as only U. S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
