Job Summary The laborer is an entry level manufacturing position that is responsible for supporting the build and repair of steel vessels for a variety of customers as well as the maintenance within the shipyard. Responsibilities Performs various physical duties as assigned Maintains all safety standards Moves, secures, installs, builds, loads, or unloads materials such as trash, steel, dirt, etc.
Performs some specialized tasks which may require on-the-job training Effectively using heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignment Moves items from place to place, according to direction from the site supervisor Moving tools, equipment, or other material as directed in plans or by supervisor Removal of preservative coating Act as a fire watch Required Skills & Abilities Knowledge in standard practices in comparable manufacturing environments Follows directions and procedures under limited supervision Conducts basic problem-solving skills under supervision Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines Ability to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety Ability
to communicate with co-workers and supervisor Knowledge in the use of general handtools such as hammers, shovels, tape measures, grinders, etc.

Support the implementation of changes to existing plastics processes designed to improve product quality, productivity, and overall equipment efficiency. Provide critical support for continuous improvement efforts to improve quality, productivity,
and cost reduction. Support the standardization, training, and SOP for plastic equipment.
Support New Product Development plastics efforts from pilot trials through commercialization. Support production facility efforts to develop and implement universal standards and best practices. Deliver results within the prescribed development and engineering budgets, scopes, and timelines and GPI safety guidelines. Facilitate, encourage, promote, and engage in teamwork activities. Other duties as assigned. BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE: 5+ years relevant experience in plastics process engineering support or manufacturing. Extrusion and Thermoforming of thin-gauge Polypropylene, PET, HIPS, PLA, and other biopolymers preferred.
Experience working hand-in-hand with production personnel and directly working hands-on with plastics processing equipment. EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE: Associate degree or higher in a STEM field strongly preferred. SKILLS: Must have demonstrated analytical skills and technical report writing. Including use of standard office software suites. Must have demonstrated methodical root cause focused problem-solving abilities. Must have demonstrated oral and written communication and organizational skills. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities with direction.
Must be able to work in a professional team environment. SCHEDULE DEMANDS: General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules in special situations which may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends. Up to 50% travel to manufacturing facilities, to include flying, driving, riding or by rail. Usual travel is inconsistent and depends on specifics of immediate projects. Usual opportunity to be home for weekends during travel assignments. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 12-hours.
Occasional Lifting up to 40 lbs. Reading computer screens or other electronic devices. Use of various office, hand, and electrical tools or equipment.
