a variety of semi-skilled work below the journeyman level as directed by management to maintain the structure, grounds and equipment required to operate a skilled and intermediate care nursing home as required by the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs and the Illinois Dept.

Job Responsibilities
30% Performs a variety of semiskilled work, below the journeyman level, to maintain and repair the structure, grounds, and equipment for Illinois Department Veterans Affairs Home (IDVA).
25% Makes periodic rounds of buildings, inspecting for obvious safety and fire hazards. 20% Performs routine safety inspection and services the equipment and items used by the residents and employees in other departments such as electrical lifts for residents and their wheelchairs. 15% Relocates, renovates, and remodels rooms by loading and unloading equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and assists with equipment up to 100 pounds. 5% Operates motor vehicles to provide the transportation of residents to off-site medical providers and hospitals 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school plus one (1) year of maintenance work experience preferably associated with the building and mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation. Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance) Prefer one (1) year of working knowledge of construction and maintenance tools, equipment, and materials.
Prefer one (1) year of elementary knowledge of one or more of the building and mechanical trades. Prefer one (1) year of experience in professional groundskeeping Prefer one (1) year of experience in following written and oral instructions. Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to pass a background check. Requires the ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance. Requires the ability to stand for the duration of the shift, aside from official breaks and lunch period. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U. S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends. Work Hours: 8:00 a. m.
