Under direct supervision of the Wastewater Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance

Specialist will be responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment and property structures, in addition to performing grounds maintenance.

Prior experience in a maintenance role at a wastewater facility and/or a mechanical and electrical background is required. Essential Duties: Perform maintenance in wastewater facilities including, but not limited to; buildings, vaults, structures, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, SCADA, generators, pumps, valves, and meters Perform electrical work on 480v, 220v, 110v and 4-20ma equipment; install conduit and wire; calibrate and install instrumentation and telemetry systems; diagnose electrical

failures and determine necessary repairs or replacement Other tasks include plumbing, cutting, threading, and welding pipe; installing and replacing pumps, compressors, motors, and related equipment; lubricating and installing bearings, seals, gaskets, packing, springs, and gears; installing, maintaining and repairing plant equipment including, but not limited to; bar screens, compactors, grit systems, mixers, pumps, valves, compressors, pipes, blowers, odor control devices, centrifuges, sodium hypochlorite generators, chemical metering pumps, sludge hoppers, conveyor systems, clarifier drive units, filtration equipment, gear boxes, and tanks Job hazards present may include adverse weather conditions, exposure to raw sewage, chemicals, rotating equipment, hydrogen sulfide, noise, high-medium-low voltage, oxygen deficiency and hazardous environments.

Compliance with OSHA and City safety rules and regulations is essential This position may be subject to emergency calls, overtime and stand-by duty as required Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; progressive experience in the maintenance of wastewater facilities or related field with two years performing full-time maintenance work. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building & grounds maintenance, and computer programs.

Must possess a valid Arizona Class D Driver's License and an ADEQ Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification or must be obtained within twelve months of being placed into the position. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Knowledge of c omputer programs and programming including, but not limited to MS Office, maintenance management systems, control logic, SCADA systems, PLCs, and HMIs Knowledge of P reventative maintenance programs, personal protective equipment, confined space, arc flash, chlorine, blood borne pathogens, lock out/tag out, hazard communication and other safety programs and procedures Skill in Communicating, verbal and written; remaining organized Skill in maintaining accurate maintenance records Skill in troubleshooting and making independent, sound, and timely decisions Skill in operating & maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment Ability to work with power and hand tools, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry Possess ability to l earn and develop new skills, prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures, m aintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities Ability to work as a team member Ability to perform technical and complex maintenance tasks Ability to u nderstand and interpret plans and schematics; read, understand and follow manufacturer's operation & maintenance recommendations Physical and Visual Ability : Sufficient to effectively perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicles as needed; must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and night, and in potentially adverse weather conditions; must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and capable of lifting 60 pounds frequently with a maximum of 100 pounds.
