National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Mechanical Engineering in Hicksville, NY. Job Purpose Implement measures on projects and during field operations to promote process safety and occupational safety. Perform engineering functions for repairs, modifications and additions to existing plant assets in Steam Power and Gas Turbine Generating Stations including, but
not exclusively, mechanical equipment, pressure vessels, piping, boilers and processes. Develop, review and approve design documents on projects. Provide project management and contract management functions during the construction, commissioning and operation of Generation assets.
Supervise other engineers and designers in the development, review, approval, construction and operation of Generation assets. Manage capital and expense projects to approved scope, budgets and schedules. Support and provide assurance on the National Grid Generation Asset Management Plans and Management of Change processes. Key Accountabilities Independently prepare engineering calculations, studies and
evaluations and supervise others in the same efforts to support the repairs, modifications and additions to Generation assets and processes.
Independently prepare and supervise others in the preparation of work scopes, purpose and necessity documents, risk backssments, cost estimates, schedules and sanctioning documents. Independently prepare and supervise others in the preparation of major equipment procurement and installation specifications, technical bid evaluations, purchase recommendations and purchasing requisitions. Develop and administer equipment and installation contractor purchase requisitions and orders. Manage purchase orders to schedule commitments.
Review and approve document submittals andmake final equipment inspections, Verify quality of contractor's installation work. Document scope changes for plant projects. Communicate effectively with all disciplines of designers, engineers, n plant staff, National Grid maintenance support departments, and installation contractors. Supervise and provide information to designers and approve design drawings. Provide commissioning and operational troubleshooting support at any of the power generating sites. Support and provide assurance on Asset Management Plans, configuration control, process safety processes, occupational safety and management of change procedures.
Ensure that the designs comply with all applicable laws, regulations, codes and standards. Lead and participate in Hazard backssments, Project Hazards Analysis (PHA), Incident Analysis (IA) and root cause analysis. Perform equipment inspections at vendor facilities and at generating sites. Provide engineering and project management support to generating stations, support organizations and other customers as required. Provide effective communication to all key stakeholders. Qualifications 6 to 8 years of engineering experience in mechanical disciplines respective of Professional Engineer License, advanced certificates and degrees.
In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, power plant equipment, process systems and operations. Knowledge of applicable codes (ASME &API) and standards. Experience supervising and reviewing work performed by engineers, designers and contractors Experience inspecting construction work. Experience working with other engineering disciplines. Experience preparing specifications, calculations, studies, budget estimates and schedules. Experience leading, collaborating and communicating with teams.
Bachelor's degree or higher in appropriate discipline from an accredited University. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of New York or demonstrated ability to obtain active PE license within six months. Proficient in the use of computer programs such as Auto CAD, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. Preferred familiarity with Maximo, Share Point and Open Text or other Document Management System. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills. A valid New York State driver's license.
