MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Competed Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering Professional engineer registration At least 5 years of highway design experience OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE Experience using Micro Station computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to develop plans, profiles, typical sections, cross sections, and quantity take-offs for construction phase estimates on highway design projects for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or other Virginia localities would be a plus.
Experience developing 3D engineered models in Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD) is desired, but many factors will be considered. THE DAY TO DAY FOR A CIVIL ENGINEER / ROADWAY DESIGN ENGINEER In this Civil Engineer / Roadway Design Engineer position, we rely on your knowledge and expertise to take the lead when it comes to brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. Much of your time is spent preparing designs, studies, and reports, and you verify compliance for each project, checking criteria, to review and determine all appropriate application of technical methods are being used.
Further, you take a hands-on approach to developing engineering design details, specifications, contract drawings, and estimates. Additionally, when you can, you step away from your desk to participate in presentations and perform inspections and research in the field. When appropriate, you help with training and mentoring new employees. Lastly, you are diligent when monitoring current roadway design trends and methodologies to ensure that our projects are of the highest quality.
